When you log out of google maps on your phone it gives you the option to continue being tracked... I'm sure that's a great way to kill a battery.

It does work with Sprint. I signed in with my Verizon BlackBerry and my wife with her Sprint BlackBerry. We were able to track each other. Wasn't too accurate but I assume that's because it's using cell towers.

Hmm, the privacy issues make me nervous about this, but I guess there are people who don't mind it...

What privacy issues? You can just turn it off if you don't want to be tracked. Or just don't sign up at all. I don't really go anywhere that exciting anyway. :)

I can't think of anything specifically, but IMO, this is a form of monitoring. Nothing big, I'm sure, but I wonder what's next?

What can I say, I'm mistrustful of this world and wary of technology at times...:)
