I've got a spreadsheet with site information for both Verizon and Sprint. However, I don't have any pictures, since I didn't have a digital camera at the time. Are members still interested in the data? Is there a way to import an entire list, rather than 1 at a time? I'm talking about over 500 sites. I would'nt mind sharing my information, but I don't want to retype everything in. Dan
Without the pictures we can't put them in the gallery. If you did have a large number of pictures, we could upload them in bulk. If you want to make the data available to others, you can attach an .xls file to any post just like you would a picture.
I guess I'm not seeing the usefulness in this exercise. At first I was optimistic, because I thought it could/would eventually be used to create maps with the site locations, since there is no such usable data available from most carriers, at least not VZW. I'd rather see a map with dots where the sites are than a picture of a tower. Dan
It would be neat to see this sheet, if you did attach it like JFB suggested, at least people could check it out.
I think a map like that which contained pictures of the actual sites would be pretty cool. That's a lot of work, a lot of driving and a lot of programming, though.
The driver part was easy. Many joy rides on my motorcycle. Observation is the best tool. For instance, someone has been doing some major work around here this week. I'm guessing it's t-mobile at this point, but I don't really know for sure. The programming is easy also, well at least since that's my job. I had my computer stolen from my desk just after this. I'll try to put together a map that I can upload. I create a map with mappoint. I could upload a partial list with lat/long, but I'm not sure that would do many people much good. What type of info do most people look for? Does anyone on here use that tool? Anybody know of any legal issues with distributing a mappoint map file? Dan
Attached is an image of VZW site locations in the Minneapolis market. It's possible there are a couple missing or new ones as of this year that are not here. Dan
Attached is an image of Sprint PCS site locations in the Minneapolis market. Most sites that appear at the business site locater should be reflected on this image. Most were verified to exist. Some sites even exist that don't appear on their site. Some newer sites may not be in this image. Dan
If you review the 2 images I've just posted. You will see how many more sites Sprint has than VZW in this market. The old 800 vs 1900 argument is no longer valid either. VZW is offering services at 1900 as well, which means, either the coverage isn't as good or their service is more overloaded because of the spacing between sites. Dan
With the recent MWW news, I thought I'd add a map of their MN sites. This is only the MN sites registered with the FCC, not WI or IA, and I have not verified very many of these, hence the flag rather than a symbol depicting the type of structure the site is located on.
