Well, I just signed up again with Sprint (this will be my third time ). I bought the SERO 500 plan which includes the following: 500 anytime adjustable minutes Unlimited night and weekend minutes starting at 7 pm Unlimited Power Vision (includes Unlimited Web access, Unlimited email and instant messaging - AOL, MSN and Yahoo, and Unlimited Sprint PCS Picture Mail with Video Mail) Standard options (voice mail, CF, etc.) Unlimited text messaging ($15 per month) My total price per month should be $45 plus taxes. I purchased the Sprint PPC 6700. I should receive the phone either tomorrow or Friday unless there is a delay. I will have a full review of the phone and service in the coming weeks.
Good stuff! If you call into CS and talk to the right person, they will lower your unlimited texting rate to $10 from $15.... just say you want to get on the $10 package you saw on the website.
Wow, Congratulations about signing back up with Sprint, Erik! I'm sure it will work out for you- I have been thinking about getting myself a $30 SERO plan for the data; Verizon's data pricing is ridiculous. Are you going to cancel your Verizon line or keep that as well?
Thanks Andy. Yes, I am going to keep that line strictly for the M2M calls between my family members, but I will cancel the VCAST and text messaging package on my line. As for the data, this is one of the main reasons that I have the SERO plan. I used to have the Q with Verizon, and $45 a month for data, plus text messaging was around $60 per month with taxes. Well, I chose the 6700 since this was the only PDA phone available at the time. I received an e-mail that my credit was approved and the phone is out of stock. I called up Sprint since I noticed that the Treo 700p, 700wx, and Q were back on the site. I switched to the Palm Treo 700wx, which is the phone that I really wanted. So now I am very happy.
I definitely will. I also will be able to give a coverage report with both Verizon and Sprint since I will be going out to Nebraska with my family towards the second week of July to look for apartments for my sister (since she will be attending UNL for her doctorate in English this fall). One of my reasons that I chose the Palm Treo 700wx, is because of windows mobile as the OS and I read on Geeks Toolbox that I can install Sirius on my Treo and stream all of the channels to my phone using EVDO. Andy, do you know if Sprint has a "cap" on their data usage like Verizon does? Or is it trully unlimited? UPDATE: I should be receiving my Treo 700wx Monday evening.
Erik, Sprint's DATA is truly unlimited, unlike Verizon's, and you will also be able to use ALLTEL's EVDO and Verizon's 1x free of charge. Verizon has no EVDO agreements at present, and has their 5 gb limit per month. I have been considering a Sprint data device with their $30 SERO plan myself, mainly for streaming music and video while on the go. If you don't mind, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know how well the device does streaming video and music from different sources- I'm not sure if you use (free) services like AOL Radio, which lets you listen to XM for free, but that is something I'd be interested in knowing whether or not it works. Thanks Erik, Andy
Andy, I don't use AOL Radio, but if it is free like you said, then I will test it out along with my Sirius satellite subscription. I will let you know my results in the next few weeks (including a full review of the service and device). I wish Verizon had data that was trully unlimited. If it was the same price as Sprint charges for data (especially for PDA's), I would pick up a Verizon PDA in a heartbeat.
I just noticed over on Howard Forums on the Sprint's SERO site that the voice plans now include unlimited text messaging. I will be calling Sprint this next week once I receive the phone to verify that it is on my account. The promotion is as follows: "**Service Offers: Unlimited text messaging promotion expires 6/30/07."
Thanks Erik, I would appreciate it if you could try that when you get a chance. I am wanting a data device more and more myself, but Verizon's data plans and limitations are ridiculous!
I would have made due, but I am very glad that the Treo 700wx was back up on the SERO site and the 6700 was backordered since the 700wx was my first choice. I hope the unlimited text is true. This would be the best deal I have ever seen if this is the case. I will be calling Sprint tomorrow (the retentions number according to members on HoFo, and see if I can get it for free since they are advertising it this way. I will let you know the outcome. I definitely will let you know how I like the device. It is off of the Sprint SERO site as of now. But I think they receive new inventories of their main phones every week or so, but I may be wrong.
Well, I just called Sprint and was told that the unlimited text promotion is only free for 1 month only. Is this true? If not, does anyone know the code in the system to either get it free or at a reduced rate? Thanks in advance.
Well, the feature for unlimited text (In and Out) has been added. I won't be able to check my plan until Monday to see if it is indeed there. I will post an update once I know.
Yeah let us know. I think the Promotion to get free text is only valid till the end of June, but once you have it, you should be able to keep it from what I understand. ~Andy
Exactly. The women who knew exactly what she was doing told me that I can keep it as long as I don't cancel the feature or change my plan (I assume she means to a non-SERO plan, but I may be wrong). Andy, will you too be switching to a SERO plan soon?
I will not be canceling my Verizon line because of IN Calling and various other ways I can get phones for free, but I am really wanting a data device and the Sprint SERO plan really costs nothing when you take into account what it gives you. A comparable plan with other carriers would cost over $100 per month! I also often travel to Central/Southern Utah where I don't have Wifi or dial up internet, so a Sprint device roaming on ALLTEL would be better than nothing.
Come on Andy, what's it going to take? Don't tell me you're holding out for free laptop tethering as well?
Haha, I want it all. On a serious note, though, you mentioned that laptop tethering is of course not legally allowed- what about occasional, once or twice a month just quickly checking emails...that wouldn't be anything Sprint would catch on to, is it? I tether with my VZW phone and use minutes when I do this and don't have a data plan whatsoever on my plan.
Just thought I would chime in that the Free SMS is infact free....I called in for 6 accounts on Saturday to have their SERO plans upgraded to the free SMS...and it was no problem......If you have SERO already your account can be handled by Employee Accounts and they are worlds better then regular CS....the # 1.866.250.2221 and they're the ones that added the Free Unlimited with no problem for me to all 6 SERO accounts.
UPDATE: I just received my Treo 700wx in the mail. I am charging it now and then I will set up the phone. I will have updates and pictures using the phone within the next week (maybe even this weekend).
It depends on the device you use but I think Sprint is trying to block that ability. Not sure on that though.
I noticed in the fine print, there is verbage from the fair & flexible plans.....adjustable minutes. Are the SERO plans sill offering the sdjustable minutes, or is this a misprint?
According to my online usage, the minutes I have been using are F&F. Here are my plan details: Sprint Fair & Flexible Plan Adjustable Anytime Minutes $30 Minimum Monthly Charge AMERICA - ROAMING Included Nationwide Long Distance Included Unlimited Night & Weekend Mins. Included Nights: M-Th 7PM-7AM Wknd: F 7PM-M 7AM Unlimited Vision Access Unlimited Mobile to Mobile Caller ID, Call Waiting Three-way Calling Voicemail
Thanks Lenny - I called the # and had no problem changing my older Sero to the new Sero with 7 pm and unlimited texts. I can't imagine a better deal. G.
The unlimited texts feature on the SERO account is awesome. I just got this feature added as of Saturday, May 19, and it is definitely worth your time on the phone to get this.
