With the recent rebranding to T-mobile in the NYC area I'm wondering if perhaps I should stay with T-mobile. I'm aware that Sprint currently has better call quality in NYC, but will T-mobile improve?

I'm currently fairly pleased with my service except that everytime that my phone fails to get a signal, and I'm with my friend that has Sprint, I realize that he has a signal.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Does anyone know what T-mobile's buildout plans are for the NYC area, and what is your general opinion about the T-mobile future?

    ConfusedFool

P.S. Does anyone know anything about the Nokia 6610 and when it'll be offered for T-mobile?

I have Sprint in the NYC area (Staten Island) and i can tell you that Sprint is better than VS hands down. I have read a thread in this forum that in Staten Island, Sprint has plans to build an additional 8-10 new towers. That will improve an already robust network here. I used to have VS, but my sister still has it. Since i left VS the service has greatly degraded. I think the reason for this is because they scrambled to signup new subscribers but for got to upgrade their network to handle the increase in trafffic.

I beg to differ. Never had any problem with T-Mobile in the NYC area.

So does anyone know anything about what T-mobile's buildout plans are for the NYC area, and what the T-mobile future looks like?

    Also what the Nokia 6610?

If you're asking about a possible merger in regards to your question about t-mobile's future, anything posted wil be rumor or opinion and nothing more. I don't know anything about the 6610, I've read the 7210 will be carried by t-mobile in november.

I don't know about plans to build-out more NYC coverage by T-Mobile, but I wasn't aware that they had any problems in NYC. No one else has ever said anything was wrong with Voicestream in NYC, and there are people on this forum that post all of the time from NYC and they have T-Mobile, and have never complained. Hmmm.
Well, Voicestream's improvments seem to happen overnight. They don't usually post huge articles and tell everyone that they are upgrading their coverage like other companies do. Voicestream usually just does it and gets it over with. Who needs the publicity for everyone to know that you are upgrading your network and how much money you are spending on it, and blah blah blah. Most people don't care.
Well, like I said, if Voicestream improves whatever you say they have problems with in NYC, then it will just happen overnight, they won't tell everyone.

As far as the 6610 goes, it's not set to be carried by Voicestream. The Nokia tri-band phones that are suppose to be carried by Voicestream are the Nokia 7210 for sure, and I think the 6310i. That 7210 is THE BEST phone ever.

    anthlover is kinda right.

You say that wherever you don't have service, you friend with Sprint does, but have you checked with them to find out where they might not have service? The grass is always greener blah blah blah, so you should do a touch more research before jumping. Generally, I follow the school of thought that Verizon is the most likely phone to have a signal in most places, but, just check with people, talk to people, etc. Maybe ask companies if you can "demo" one of their phones for a few days, etc....etc....etc...

Dude. Very simple, sign up for sprint. They are giving $100 instant rebates for new customers. Try it out, if you like it, then stick with it. If you dont, then cancel within 2 weeks trial with no termination penalty. The thing with this forum is, there will always be someone telling you to go with a certain provider, and people who tell you not to. See for yourself. Sprint and Verizon are best in NYC. But T-mobile won JD powers award. Maybe they are getting better. I dunno. I have no experience with T mobile

If you are going to try a new service, my advice is in the first week to take the phone to as many places that you would go to as you can, and try to make calls in all those places. If you can make calls from everywere you would normaly go in a month, then go right ahead and switch services.

you talk like you work for cingular. yet you can't even spell 'right' nor 'cell' or even 'sites' and you also call the man 'jerky'...... I think cingular is in trouble lol do you have to spell to install a cell tower? or does it come with colored pictures that you can follow along with? although I highly doubt you work for cingular....but if you do; oh boy.

    Ok, johndoe, then explain this:

Cingular, VoiceStream to Share Wireless Networks in New York, California and Nevada

Yes I know VS has a new name. I'm supplying the original release.

If you need more info, visit www.sec.gov and search on filings by Cingular. Read their 10-Q filed on 8/28, and search for the "Factory." That's the name of the JOINT operating agreement.

This person obviously does not know what on earth he's talking about and I pray to god for Cingular customers in his area that, in fact, he does not work for Cingular... It's common knowlege that Cingular & T-mobile have a sharing agreement in NYC and out west; it's been posted on every wireless news site for ages and ages now. Anyone that disputes this fact must have obviously been living in a cave for the past year or something.... sheesh

I work for a Cingular Agent, and for both Cingular and my company I pray he's not an employee; we could all be in a lot of trouble.

Considering his number of messages (and the content of the ones on this list) does anyone get the impression he joined up just to flame and promote a bit???

Sprint would be your best bet. voice stream uses chips in their phones which would be fine if there were a higher quantity of other companies that did the same. using chips is an over seas thing. and with out the support of other companies there is no rotation of customers. besides i think voice stream used to be omnipoint who went bankrupt. who needs a carrier who can't keep their finances in order.

Omnipoint was acquired by VoiceStream in 2000. They did not go bankrupt.

Yes we do use chips (sim cards) and it's a dang handy thing to have. When I decide to move on to a new phone all I have to do is slide the sim card out my old phone and into the new one and bang i'm up and running. No need to reprogram all those phone numbers and settings, its all there. Oh and as to quantity of customers and rotation lets see both AT&T and Cingular are going gsm, gee that pool is getting real big.

Don't do it! I was a spint customer for over 4 years the first 2 were good after that it went south.. I started having major billing problems all of it because of their errors and I can't even tell you how poorly represented that company is. Customer service lies to you and tells you whatever you want to hear just to get you off the phone. I will list some major issues for you so you may think about it before going for it. 1.) dropped calls- this is a constant problem for them. 2.) If you pay for the insurance on the phone your throwing your money away. They give you refurbished phones instead of new one's and what's the point of having the insurance if you have to send it into them everytime. 3.) Customer Service- They don't know the meaning. I wish I could explain to you how badly that company has burned me but I'm sure you will find out for yourself if you decide to switch.. :
