Well, I thought "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani was the worst song of the year... and then I heard My Humps, by the Black-Eyed Peas. It's even worse than "The Milkshake Song". Musicians should be discouraged from using "my lovely lady lumps" in a song; they should be outright prohibited from using lyrics such as "I mix your milk wit my cocoa puff, milky milky cocoa." *twitch*
I like all three of those songs mentioned. They got good beats and good lyrics for the reasons why the artists decided on those songs. Zaphod, I believe you make the mistake as many others do is that you try to use standards of one kind or genre of music and apply them to another genre. You can't really do that. For example, Rap Music, I hear so many people complain about rappers "not being able to carry a tune". With Rap, you don't have to "carry a tune". That's not what rap is all about. With Rap, it's how you flow and get out what you want said. With the songs you were talking about. Kelis - Milkshake and Black Eyed Peas - My Humps are both sexually suggestive songs. You also got to put your mind in the right set to really get down with or like the song. In other words, you really got to be thinking about sex or wanting it, LOL, to like the song or get down with it. With that in mind, the songs are good and the lyrics fit. You also got to understand that the lyrics are also using slang. See, if I was sac-religous person, I would absolutely hate these songs. However, I am your typical 24 y/o urban, club hoppin, guy so I like those songs. Now, I am not trying to categorize you in any way but, I am just trying to explain it all. I forgot to talk about Hollaback Girl. I noticed with Gwen Stefani that with some of her more known or popular songs that she's singing about herself...how she is,etc. I like that song and it has good beats. She does it well and the lyrics fit well for what she's singing about. So it really all depends on the kind of person a person is whether certain kinds of music fit their personality. Some people will hate certain songs or music while others really like it. So I believe the worst songs or best songs discussions are kind of pointless for the reasons I explained above. *Now I know the above statement does not have the best layout in terms of presentation but, I feel that everyone gets the idea of what I'm trying to say and what my point is. LOL*
Are you calling me a religious freak? ARE YOU THREATENING ME? I AM CORNH... never mind. I admit to having some bias because I can't stand hip-hop -- it all sounds exactly the same to me in a way that no other genre (including rap) does... but the lyrics, even given the use of slang, are horrible. Come on, can you really tell me that if someone said something about "lovely lady lumps" to you in conversation that you wouldn't giggle, or react in anyway? The beat sounds like it was cooked up on a Casio synthesizer. Honestly, it's set electronic music back 20 years. That's not the point, though. What do YOU think is the worst song of 2005?
LOL, my apologies if you thought I was insinuating anything about who you are. LOL I was only trying to explain my thinking as it were. Anyway, if someone used "lovely lady lumps" in a normal convo, then I guess some would consider it odd but, then it's all in the eyes of the beholder as the saying goes. I personally wouldn't care. Everyone has their own way of talking, their own kind of slang. I live in western washington....Seattle to be exact. At least here I have and continue to hear slang vary by area, city, groups of people. You also got to remember music is an artform and there are many different kinds of art. Some people will like some kinds others will like other kinds. That point seems to escape people. To answer you question, I honestly can't think of a "worst song of '05". I don't think that way. I can tell you that I will not go buy country, heavy metal, or rock/alternative CDs. I have a preference of kinds of music. I can't really say I have a favorite because it changes so frequently for me. With that in mind, I won't go critizing other songs saying they're the worst song.....because I know other people will like them. The point is it all fall back onto when people will like this and others will like that.
well, I do think that most rap sux, (Except Eminem) but I have to say that anything by Kelly Clarkson sux the worst. I humbly submit Because of You - Kelly Clarkson as the worst song this year.
Best song of 2004 I sort of agree with you Zaphod. I'm not going to jam to any of those songs in my dorm or car. However if I'm at a party of something, then they're fine for reasons that Sbacklin said. It's funny I saw this thread now, as "My Humps" just came on XM20, and I promptly changed it!
I'm with you on anything by Gwen Stefani, she drives me bonkers. It's My Life is the only one I can 1/2 listen to.
Well then I would have to say that other genres to me sound the same, like alternative, etc. This could go around in a continuous circle. That's why my point was like, these kinds of debates or discussions are pointless. It all comes down to some people liking this and some others liking that.
Worst song is that My Humps song Now, most OVERPLAYED is Gwen Stefani....Hollaback girl. And because of it being WAY overplayed...it is starting to rate up there in the worst song category because having it drilled into my skull is causing me to really not like it
I like all the songs mentioned lol... But I really hated Mockingbird by Eminem... anything by him is horrid and stupid. -Now I have the awesome Black Eyed Peas in my head... WHO RECORDED THEIR LATEST ALBUM IN SÃO PAULO!!!-
I actually like Hollaback Girl, My Humps and Milkshake. lol Those songs have good beats to them. Minus the words to a song the beat is very important and that's what makes it rock even more. lol
Gotcha, I hate that! It is definitely the most played song on my iTunes counter. I listened to it alot last January in Paris. I HAVE A NEW ONE FOR YOU ALL! Laffy Taffy by DL4 or something. Jesus F'ing Lord, I almost cancelled my XM subscription when I heard that shi** on Top 20. I promptly turned it back to a rock station. My god, it's just awful. The "singing" "rapping" whatever it actually is, is just awful. It sounds like a homeless black man with some sort of throat infection. So to run it down on that song... Lyrics: Awful Voice Quality: Awful Beat: None So it has nothing going for it IMO. If this can even be in a top 100, I have to question the sanity of our nation (along with other reasons haha).
I can stand Hollarback Girl by Gwen, but My Humps is stupid. Funny thing as I was clicking on the link, I picked this song and I was right.
My vote goes for Mr. Lonely by Akon(Is that right?) and I hope that was 05... altho I guess it could've been 04. That song is HIGHLY annoying, if I wanted to hear Chipmunks singing, I'll pick up an Alvin and the Gang album... And I second the anything by Gwen Stefani, and I'd also like to add anything by Ashlee Simpson, when will that girl realize, she has NO talent when it comes to music... ~*Ash*~
She's got all the talent in the world if your referring to Lip-Synching, and/or lack of originality!!!
They rocked!!! I had that album, & I was mighty shocked when news surfaced that they pulled an Ashlee Simpson!!! I'm still trying to recover from that speck of news!!!
Do you recall tho, when they actually tried to sing using their real voices... Yikes. That wasn't fun... Now that I think about it, didn't one of them die? Now I feel kinda guilty ragging on a dead guy... :dunno: ~*Ash*~
