Hi, I'm a new member and I stumbled on this site on one of my late-night internet escapades. I am a journalist and I'm interested in cell phones, I'm a prepaid nut and don't like the commitment of a contract. I have a Motorola c650, which I hope to not lose, as I usually do wiht my phones, but hey, what's money?

  5. COtech, I realize that the above post was made awhile back, but whose TDMA do u use in ur area??

Cingular's. Only when GSM fades out, by my movement, will the Nokia 6340i start a hunt for any signal. I generally don't see the fade, with the phone on my belt. I can see that TDMA is active, instead of the GSM when I last looked. If the 6340i finds GSM again before switching to TDMA, I won't know of a fade out.

I think the only major carrier that still uses TDMA is nextel, I'm probably wrong though.

    Hello!
    OK Post how?
    Post where?
    "The message is too short!"
I don't think this is going to be useful for me as it is totally un intuitive.
    Cute icons though!

Nextel uses a proprietary format called iDen. The TDMA carriers, Cingular and AT&T Wireless, converted to GSM although they are still operating their TDMA networks. Cingular reported that 95% of their traffic is now on their GSM network.

Nextel phones cannot use CDMA at all. Nextel phones with a SIM card holder will allow them to use GSM overseas, but that's not related to iden.

Really? I tried my mom's Motorola i830 here in Germany and it didn't work. The only Nextel handset that I know of with GSM was the i2000 which had iDEN 800/GSM 900.l

I think you're right- I have no idea how many phones Nextel sells with a SIM holder. It could be just one.

My mom's i830 has a SIM card holder and I tried putting it in my Motorola V525. It wouldn't connect to any German GSM provider but it displayed Nextel in the top left corner of the screen. I also had a phonebook entry called Nextel Contacts but it couldn't be accessed by the V525.

    :)

    Welcome to Wireless Advisor :)
There are quite a few threads about leaving Suncom in the Southern U.S. Forums if you'd like to take a look.

    Hi grumpygirl, welcome to WA.

You may want to post your question on the LG forum or the Verizon forum, you will get more responses in those. As far as another camera phone, I have the LG 7000 which has performed very well for me.

    Hope this helps.

Hello, Grumpy!!! :D I have the 6100, & I never had that issue, fortunately. I say the Treo 650 is sweet, but I may be a bit biased as my lovefest w/ my T650 is in full-swing!!!

    Hello,

I want to use a wireless line as my main business line. What this means is that the phone number needs to appear in the business phone directory. Getting into the yellow pages seems to be a matter of paying for an ad. Where on this site should I post my question? I have done a search using directory listing phonebook.

    Garry :) :O

Welcome to WA, first off we need some info to help you. Where in GA are you? Do you currently have a provider and if so, are you seeking to switch from a CDMA carrier (Verizon/Sprint) to a GSM carrier (T-Mobile or Cingular) or vice-versa?

What do you expect from your provider? What's your monthly wireless need like?

Then post directly in the Southern US Wireless Forum so people from that area can help you. We have a number of people from GA (roamer1 is one, he has an informative site here: www.sewireless.info and http://www.roamer1.org/ ) and also from FL (Gamer03) who could help you out.

    Good Luck :)

I'm in North Georgia about 1 hour north of Atlanta. I currently have Cingular but it's seems like with the merge with AT&T that I should have had better coverage in some areas and that hasn't changed. My phone has quit working and before spending alot of money on a new phone, I wanted to get info on different providers. The next largest and seems to be better coverage is Verizon. I don't know the differences in CDMA or GSM. I don't use the phone for business, just personal and I travel all over the Southeast and fish competetively and need coverage on the lakes for safety reasons. I just don't want to get a new phone that will need to be updated in a year. The sales help in the stores is really bad. I would usually let this determine who I would do business with since I work with the public, but in this case they are all rude and I'm confused. Thanks for the help. :loony:

Hello everyone. I need info regarding coverage in the TennTom waterway area along the Miss.-Ala. line. I will be on a boat heading that way in a few weeks. I now have Sprint. From reading some posts here in the Southern district, Cingular may be better. Thanks.

Have a look at the links, they might provide some initial info for you. There's bound to be someone who can help answer your questions in the Southern US Wireless forum.
