    Hey guys,
Just got myself a new LG VX6000 yesterday :) I'm all over this thing.

But here comes my problem.. my service is through a small local provider.. they suck basically, I mean they don't support ANYTHING right now.. no sending pics, no BREW, no wireless web.

What I need is a data cable so that I can interface this puppy with my PC so I can get the full use of my new toy.

    I've got a few questions:
    1. I've heard that there were different kinds of USB data cables... some with boxes on them and some that don't have the boxes. Word is that the boxes are serial to usb converters and thoes aren't supported by a lot of stuff.. and result in slower data transfers.

    2. I need to be able to pull my pictures off the phone... what good is a camera if you can't print and save the pictures?

    3. Ringtones!!!! Word is that you can download some good ringtones for the phone free online (or at a small cost). I've seen some ebay auctions that sell a big disc full of tones that you can put on your phone.. I assume that some program is needed to interface between the phone and the computer.

    4. Mp3 Ringtones. I've also heard talk that it will take mp3 ringtones.. that a myth? That sounds too good to be true... went to an ebay auction and it had a freekin song playing in the background.. lyrics and everything.. can it really handle ringtones that are mp3's with lyrics??? I've also heard .midi tones.. could someone clear this up for me?

    5. Wallpapers. Awesome wallpaper cd's are for sell on ebay too, I'm guessing the same program that puts the tones on and pulls the pictures off could put these wallpapers on? I mean c'mon.. who doesn't want a 1/2 nude hot girl on his cellphone?? hehe.

I think that about finishes it up.. I hope some of you experienced users can help me out.. Thanks a lot!

The cable is available at your local radioshack just go in there and ask for a 17-792. To answer your first question, the boxes on the cables are actually chokes. They reduce interference on the line. It is better to get a cable that has a choke but personally I don't think that it makes that big of a difference. The cable at radioshack does not have a choke, it is straight to usb.

For ringtones I usually just download midis and upload them to my phone with the data cable. I don't really understand why people buy ringtones, you can find a midi for just about anything. And with soundforge I can edit the midis to be shorter or louder or quieter, that works fine for me. Most of the ringers I use are from 8-bit Nintendo games, people get a kick outta the old school.

Wallpapers I do the same thing, I find pictures that I like, resize them, change them to indexed color mode, and badda bing, I got myself whatever wallpaper I like.

The wallpaper and ringer CD's are probably pretty cheap on ebay so I'm not saying they're a bad investment...it's just that you can make your own custom stuff pretty easily.

All you need is the cable and bitpim which you can download for free. The setup is very easy, although I had a little trouble figuring out which com my phone was on, but after that uploading is pretty simple.

The Tutorial can give you all the details you need, that's how I got started.

The Sound Forge software is a bit pricy just to sweeten a midi, isn't it? Isn't there anything else, shareware sized, that can do the same thing?

I've used Anvil Studio and I think it might be freeware or "non-expiring" shareware. It may not be as easy to use as SoundForge, but once you figure it out, it does the job. Just search Yahoo.

    Good luck.
