The Ultimate Year in Music Was... ...1967. That's the word from a BBC radio poll, which surveyed listeners of BBC Radio 2--average age 51--to determine the ultimate music year from 1965 to 2005. The winner was 1967, thanks to Jimi Hendrix, the Who, and the growing impact of the British invasion, reports the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. What year do you think was the best for music and why? What else happened in 1967 while the Vietnam War raged, protests thundered at home and that June, July and August became forever known as the Summer of Love? --The Beatles performed "All You Need is Love" to 400 million people on the first worldwide television broadcast. --The Beatles released "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." --Jimi Hendrix came out with "Are You Experienced?" --The Rolling Stones agreed to change the lyrics to "Let's Spend the Night Together" for an appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show." (The change? Let's spend some time together.) --Pink Floyd made headway into the North American market. --The Monkees were at the top of the charts. --The Beach Boys introduced a whole new sound. --The psychedelic sounds of the Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, the Doors and the Byrds hit the music charts. --Some 200,000 people gathered at the music festival in Monterey, Calif. The top five music years, according to the BBC Radio 2 poll: 1. 1967 2. 1957 3. 1973 4. 1966 5. 1969 And the worst year? That would be 1999, the year Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera topped the charts. Singing along to your favorite tunes while driving actually helps you drive more safely.
Well, it was such a great year for music, the most memorable of my school years. I think anything that was released before the year 2000 we could still call music somehow, can you imagine calling 50 cent's "At the club" a classic song 20 years from now.....
