We have a family "blue" plan which works for us. Plenty of minutes, early nights, mobile to mobile, etc. and our lines. I had tried to add a fifth line but was not allowed. Texting prices have gone up, though our incoming texts are free. I have spoken to ATT several times trying to add a text plan, but I have been told that I cannot add any features to our plan. Of course, ATT wants us to migrate to a new plan. If I ask ATT reps, most of them tell me I should never drop this plan as there is nothing anywhere close to what we have. Some reps have thought they could add text but then could not figure it out. Does anyone know whether there is some way to add texting to our plan without migrating? My wife has to use text for work and last month it was almost 15 dollars for only about 60 texts, which seems ridiculous. They keep raising the pay per use texting rates with no option for someone who does not have a text plan other than canceling service or migrating to a newer, much more expensive plan. Is there any recourse? My other option is to pick up a MetroPCS phone for her to use for the next year or so after which the text will not be a big deal. Any help appreciated.
You said you wanted to add a fifth line. Maybe a Metro PCS phone would not be a bad idea. Then use your wifes ATT line as a fifth line. Another option would be to get a virgin mobile phone. Twenty bucks for unlimited messaging. The down side is your wife would have to carry two phones and use one for calling and the other for messaging. Unfortunately I highliy doubt that they would add messaging because they want you to convert to a higher priced plan. But I could be wrong. You could always try finding the CEO's email address and emailing him. I know that the people who answer that email address have some leverage. But I think that ATT does not really care right now if you stay or leave because they have 87 million other people who have their service.
With AT&T GoPhone you could get a monthly texting package of 200 for $4.99, 1000 for $9.99, or unlimited for $19.99.
Thank you for the suggestions. I did not really have to have a fifth line--I was going to add my wife, but my brother just gave up his line to her since he has a phone form work. I will definitely have to look into Virgin, as I do not think i can get only text on a Go Phone... And I will also contact ATT to ask about adding text, though they probably couldn't care less if I left as I have a sweet old plan...
Actually you can get text only on a GoPhone with a PayGo plan. You just would purchase the 200 texts/month package with the money in your account and don't use the phone for anything else. The only thing is that if your wife really never needs more than 200 texts/month and the phone is never used for anything else, you'll have a hard time utilizing all the money in the account. Refills with the $25 quarterly expiration or the annual refill for $100 would leave only an excess of $40 (over the year) to be used in another manner. Monthly refills at $15/month would leave an excess of $120 over the course of the year.
