I'm testing new post 'Likes' feature that may replace the 'Thanks' button. You should see a linked word Like in the right side of each post. Click that if you found that post helpful, amusing, funny, etc. It is reversible. This has nothing to do with Facebook 'Likes' -- these are completely internal to this forum. (Facebook didn't invent the word 'Like'.... or 'Face' or 'Book' for that matter. ) If I decide to replace the THANKS button with this 'Like' feature, all previously given and rec'd 'Thanks' will be imported into the new system.
Interesting. When I read the topic header first I though that a like would post to facebook, but I am very happy to see that it does not.
I see that it tells you about 'Likes' you have rec'd. See the 'Your Notifications' under your username in the upper right corner.
Is the plan to keep both the "like" and the "Thanks" or eliminate "Thanks"? If so, is there an advantage of "like" over "thanks" ? Just curious!
I was wondering if this has anything to do about my comment last week that I've started to use the "Thanks" button as if it were the "Like" button on Facebook?
The 'Like' would replace the 'Thanks' button. They are both add-ons to the forum software. The Like add-on is new and integrates better. The 'Thanks' add-on is no longer being maintained by its developer and could not make the jump to the newest version of the forum software.
One other comment/request: can the "Like|Share" links be put at the bottom along with the "Thanks" button? It looks kind of out of place where it is now, which is at the bottom of the post, but above the signature.
The icon can be changed to anything, but the heart is currently the only stock image in the add-on package. Probably it can be moved. Is it that you are just used to where the Thanks button is now? Is the 'Like|Share' link more or less noticeable where it is now up by the content of the post?
The Like|Share text link looks like an ad or malware insert--a little scary. I think buttons where the current thanks button is now would be the best option. How customizable is the new system? Can you just change "Like" to "Thanks" and then import and replace the old system to make it seamless?
If the Like mechanism is basically equivalent to the Thanks mechanism, but Like is being maintained and enhanced and Thanks is not, there is no real choice. Eventually, Joe will have to move to "Like". It's nice that he asked, however, and I agree with some of the UI comments. It would be better if Like/Share simply replaced Thanks at the bottom of the post. If Joe had a choice of icons, say a "thumbs up" or a gold star like we got in Kindergarten, that would be even better. These may be things that Joe, as a customer, can suggest for the next version of the add-on software. SteveW
Can we at least get an option to shut off the notification of a received like? The process to go in and have to individually clear those out is just annoying.
I don't get notifications either, it does show that there is a new notification in the PM spot. I like the "Gold Star" idea, that will separate us from Facebook and other such places with the "Thumbs Up"
Steve - You've summed up the situation quite eloquently. Thanks. :thumb: No not yet, but I know that that has been requested many times and will likely be included in the next version of this add-on. Since I can't shut off that annoyance now, just think of them as positive vibes flowing your way from fellow members. Thanks for the improvement suggestions. I'm going to go ahead and install the stock Likes system which will replace the Thanks system. Then I will see if these suggestions can be included.
I've imported all of the old THANKS that everyone has ever given or rec'd into the new LIKES system. If you have rec'd any THANKS in the past you will see them as new LIKES notifications. If you click on that notification (upper right, below your username) it takes you to your profile page to show you them all. After you leave that page the notification is cleared. FYI - Whereas giving a THANKS incremented your post count, LIKES do not. Also, LIKES work in all forums.
Yep. I woke this morning up to quite a few likes from the past in my notification box too... :browani:
Joe, one problem: The "Likes bar" is straddling across the top of the thread and hiding some of the option from the Quick Links pull down menu. Thanks much.
