    Hi,

Yes I am new to this, but can you help. I just bought the t809 and was told that if I added the t-zones web access I could use my phone to connect to the internet using edge. The salesman (I know, but he seemed technical) said that I could use the USB cable and third party software and set it up without using the other service. He stated it as 100% fact and he knew others that were doing it. I asked what software and he said its easy to get on the web, but he did not know the name. So here I am asking... What do I need to do to use my phone and web access to connect my PC?

Ok I connect the cable and then what? Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance,
    David

First off, thanks for the link and info. It seems I am a step closer, but still missing something. The connection attempts to dial and gets connected, but then fails registration. Do I need some special login/password. The returned error is:

Registering your computer on the network...

Error 734: The PPP link control connection has failed.

    What am I missing.

    Thanks again,
    David

i'm not entirely sure......PPP is an IP protocol which means its not related toa problem with the phone.....it has something to do with getting access to the internet...it could be that since you don't have access to T-Mobile Internet...which i presume you dont....then they are blocking your access to their web servers which could be the only access between the company and the internet

also.....he only mentioned that it was third-party software which means that it could be from any company not just from samsung......it would be highly improbable that you would find this software......unless you managed to get a hold on the same operator and asked him to ask his buddies and then have him call you....which he can

im not sure unless you can give me more information....does it give you that choice to make more advanced configuration?

Ooooo...you got some wrong info from the rep. Actually, tzones (5.99 feature) is only going to be for accessing WAP pages from the phone itself...like when you press the tzones button and type in an address. You can also set up any Pop3 email account, view local weather listings, movie listings, horoscope, etc.--all from your phone...pretty cool. You have a default WAP feature included with your plan for free, but you are only able to download ringtones, wallpaper, etc.

Now, The USB cable does give you the capabilty to use your t809 as a modem(that's where EDGE comes in--just faster data xfer than the regular GPRS). You do have to have the 29.99 Tmobile Totatl internet feature on your account to do so. Also, you may have to install software onto your PC so your USB is recognized. hope this helps.

i would think that you might even be able to use your phone as a dial up modem with no extra charge from T-Mobile....just used airtime......however the 29.99 would definitely be about 75% (in EDGE areas....maybe 25 to 50% in GPRS areas) as fast as DSL.....it would be the better choice but if all you plan to do is check email....and your not going to be doing heavy duty downloading then i think that you should look for dial up software that you can use with your phone and data cable.....ill check it out and post back later

Thanks! Yeah... To good to be true. I bet he was thinking dial-up, which I don't use. What is strange is that he said in order to do this I need to have T-zone WAP Internet access. Not the $29.99, but the $5.99 option. He even added it to my account for me. So ok, maybe I got sold a feature that doesn't do what I wanted. Yet, he seemed to really believe what he was saying. The customer representive that he spoke with wanted to sell me the $29.99, but he said I did not need it. That there was a work around with the t-Zone access. That it required third party software. I asked him if I would be able to have normal web access on my PC with this connection and not just WAP and he said absolutly. I think we were taking about the same thing. Now if he was talking about dial-up why would I need t-zone's WAP access?

I am really interested in what he was talking about. I will go back and talk to him.

Please if anyone can shed some addition light on this subject please do.

Thanks to everyone that has responded.
    David

well....i think you should google "Samsung t809 dial up software" there was this thing called DataPilot that you might be able to use but its like $60. Outrageous but worth it in the end.....there is software on there to use your phone as a dial up modem
