So here's the deal -- talking to the folks at Radio Shack this week, they are saying that they have a $50 trade-in deal for a T720, after rebate. Good deal for most right?
Well, I've done alot of reading on this board and have gotten the feeling that opinions on the worth of this phone varies widely.

What is the straight scoop on this phone? It certainly looks cool but are there too many glitches at this point?
Would you guys go for it and upgrade from my old ST7868?

with the new firmware 19c it works good. a lot of the posts are from ppl who had ver 17 which didnt work well. I love the phone, looks so sweet! I just wish verizon would let us download apps, pics and tones from the net like the phones supposed to be able to do. aside from that its great!!

I have the T720 19C, and so far it works great. I had a old startac, and of course this has an abundant amount of options, and features. However, the battery life will not last long if you are constantly on the phone, due to the color screen. Overall, its a good phone tho, I think you should be happy with it.

Overall, I'd vote yes. I've only had the phone for three weeks, but I've had good luck with it. Also, I'm on Verizon, with 19c.

    Pros:

    High coolness factor.
    Small and lightweight.
My last three phones have been Motorola flips. I like the format.
Internet browsing (after I learned about WAP Tunnel on this forum.)
    Lots of features.
Well built; at least mine is.

    Cons:

Get It Now. I'm not opposed GIN per se, just that Verizon forces subscribers to use it exclusively for certain functionality. Of course, they have to cover the purchase subsidies on the phone somehow. See the Chicago Tribune article.

The belt clip is terrible. I'd never trust the phone on it.
Strayed a bit too far from the basic navigational ease of earlier StarTACs and Timeports. It is still a phone, after all.

    Mixed:

Sound quality is good, but a bit muffled compared to my Timeport 8767.

Then there is the hotly debated battery issue. I don't use the phone a lot, so I'm not burdened by the battery life. I prefer the smaller battery; I even bought a slim battery for my old Timeport 8767 because I didn't like the hump of the standard battery. I only charge about once or twice a week, but I don't think that even nightly recharging would be that big of a deal. People who are on their cell phones for hours per day should probably look elsewhere, though.

Actually it's a $100 rebate. I personally had the phone until it was ran over by an SUV and am waiting for a replacement. I'm very satisfied with it. But there are a couple of new phones coming before Christmas and I would wait if I were you. You have until Dec 31st to decide.

I've been happy with mine (19c). About my only complaint is I wish the vibrate mode was a little stronger. Otherwise I like the interface, the sound quality has been good, reception fine, great features in the phone, and the battery life works fine for me. I have no need for the Get it Now stuff, don't know if I'd use much of it if it were free, and besides I can WAP out to the Internet through the free tunnels anyway.

C'mon people, don't just call a phone a "POS" without giving some explanation, it tells people nothing. It also amazes me how I see people have a bad experience with a single phone in one city, and with one ROM, and them presume to judge the phone no good for anyone to use.

Someone suggested going with an LG510. I just upgraded off that phone. Its a good phone, however the phone book doesn't let you sort it, gets hard to find things in a long list. I also couldn't add a custom wap tunnel address, meaning no WAP unless you pay Verizon for it. Battery life was poor, even worse than the T720 for me. This is even after getting a new phone and battery. It also took a LOT longer to charge than the T720. No faceplaces either- black is it. I scratched up the front of it, and was stuck with it also.
