I am so sick of people saying "I had no problem with any phone until I got the T720". Your previous phone was probably a monochrome display phone that could only play monophonic ringtones and could not load games and apps to it. All your phone had to do was ring when someone called you and let you call someone, and maybe some Text-Web Surfing. The T720 is a much more complicated phone then your previous Startac or Samsung or whatever you owned. And I remember having many headaches with my Startac 7868 (getting so mad I would try to "drop it hard" so I could get a warranty replacement) that I just don't get with the T720.
I believe there are many more of us that has no problems with this phone than those who did. This phone seems to have gotten a lot of attention though because it was Verizon's flagship color phone (ignoring the Z800 purposely). Those who were anxious to get a color phone from Verizon got the first edition that rolled out and got burned by today's software philosophy, "Roll it out now, patch it two weeks from now!". The T720 is now a problem free phone.
End of ranting, on to facts:
Stand by time is higher for the T720 then all of the other phones and typically our phones spend more time in standbye then talk time (as long you have the most recent software update and PRL's).
The A530 is digital only, which is probably great if you live in New York city and never leave the area. I travel all over Wisconsin, and I rely on analog to cover me when Digital doesn't work.
I also have the Sprint A500 and have to say that navigating this phone is a little more cumbersome then the T720 and I assume the A530 has a very similar GUI.

You are right, I am sure there are way more people happy with the T720 than are not. Also, just because a phone has more complicated insides doesn't excuse it from problems. The Audiovox 9500, which is by no means perfect, came out about the same time as the T720 and it didn't have near the problems the T720 had. While the T720 may suit many people fine, it is a troublesome phone. Fact is that the T720 probably has a much higher rate of problems compared to just about ANY Verizon phone. Obviously I don't have return rate or fail rate facts, but I am guessing if the typical phone is at 3%, the T720 is probably at 10%. That is a HUGE difference. Still, it would mean 90% of people either have no problems or don't consider whatever problems they have with their T720 to be serious. No phone is perfect, but I think there are better choices than the T720.

I agree with you though, analog is still important to me too, and thus nearly all of Verizon's new phones are unacceptable to me in that regard. I would take the T720 over the a530 because of th eanalog issue. I would still take the 9500 or 4400 over the T720 though.

The Audiovox 9500 came out at least a couple months later (in the Wisconsin area and assuming nationwide) which is an eternity in the software/hardware world. Verizon had to get its foot in the door with an affordable color phone as the T-Mobile's and Sprints were passing them up fast. The T720 was probably the closest to release with the least amount of bugs so they let it go nationwide first. All the bugs existed in the 17p firmware which was updated quickly to 19c within a short period of time which fixed nearly everything. It's called ma
To correct you, the T720 may have HAD a lot of problems when it was first release, but it is a damn good phone now. And I have very rarely experienced any issues that I consider unusual with this phone versus other phones I've used.
If you don't like this philosophy of release now, fix later, blame M$.

When was the T720 released in WI? The 9500 was available in November 2002 here, I thought the T720 came out right about then, maybe one month earlier.

I agree with him. The t720 is a GREAT phone now that its fixed, and people still try and steer everyone away from it and into that lg4400 thing. Forget the past, whats important to a mobile user is NOW, and NOW the t720 is as good as any other phone and might even be better then some.

I think the T720 was first made available in September and the Audiovox was not until after October. I bought mine at the end of October. I waited until there were better prices available and until "Service Pack 1" was coming out figuring this phone was going to be buggy because of it being the most complex "pure phone" Verizon was putting out (versus their PDA's like the Kyocera Palm phone and the pathetic Thera). Of course I want the Kyocera 7135 though now... [IMG]

If I could afford to spend $500 I wouldn't mind having the 7135 either.

The purpose was to direct ramius towards the better phone, not go into an argument between the T720 and VX-4400. As a T720 owner, I can tell you myself ramius that you're much better off with the VX-4400 simply because Verizon really d!cked us over with the T720 and I'd like to see them not make any more money off the phone. Who the hell "improves" a phone months after it's been released? It shouldn't have came out with all those problems, yet it still did. Why? Because they're greedy.

The VX-4400 is the better phone, and if the choice is exclusively between the T720 and a530 as the thread says, then go for the a530.. long as you won't need analog for a year or two.

I say the a530, richer color, louder sound, nicer phone in my opinion, but the analog thing is an issue. Run away from teh t720 while u can! Go!

Not sure if this is the case with the A530, but I have the A500 which has a design flaw. The ringer for the phone is the ear-piece! This means when the phone is closed, the ringer is considerably quieter.

This country is not ready for a digital-only phone like the A530.
Regardless of its history with others, the T720 has always been an excellent phone for me and many others. And what do you get for paying $50 more for the VX4400? Both the T720 and VX4400 are very comparable in functions. Objectively speaking, the T720 is a better deal.

In general, the T720 is fine as long as you don't get it from Verickzon.
