On Saturday, I took my t720 into Verizon to have them flash the phone with the latest software to rid the phone of bugs. When I got the phone back, I noticed that the microphone that picks up speach is not working. I went back the next day and was told that there was nothing that could be done. My only option is to buy a new phone. I was planning to keep this phone a bit longer but now I have no option. Today, I took the phone apart to see if i could figure out anything. I noticed that the front display had been replaced. I was not aware of this. The outside display has been squished and had that LCD squishy purple rainbow in part of the display. I checked the display and it looks new. Verizon's tech updated the firmwear and swapped the circuit bord with outer display. now the microphone is dead. what can you recommend I do to fix the phone? Should I buy one off ebay for parts? should I go back and complain because they swapped parts and that could be the reason it's not working? should I give up and buy another model phone? If I should get a new one, what do you recommend?
Did you have a chance to compare the ESN on your phone with the ESN on your contract? I'm willing to wager that they were unable to flash your phone, and just gave you a refurb instead. Under normal circumstances, I'd say that VZW's handling of your phone was a mercy killing. But this was somewhat shady of the techs responsible - either they did what you suggest, swap the circuit board, or (more likely) gave you a refurb, when all you asked for was a (free, since you're a customer) update to your phone's firmware. Given the situation, I would go back to the store that worked on your phone and speak to a manager. By all rights, the techs either hosed your phone without your knowledge or consent, or gave you a bum refurb. Either way, you should get something from this - something along the lines of a VX6100 or V710, maybe.
I checked the phone this morning in the sun and i did see the squish in the outer display. I guess they did not swap out the board. The reason I thought they did was that they wrote "FT" on the connecter cable for the front board. That was not there before. I guess they wanted to make sure they put it back together correctly. why they needed to take it apart in the first place is beyond me. maybe the "ft" came when they were trying to diagnose the microphone issue. I knewit's my phone as the case still has the same nicks and scratches. I'm thinking of talking to a manager or calling customer support for help.
Mic on the t720 is fairly easy to replace. I like your idea of buying one for parts, they are probably pretty cheap somewhere. The phone is good, but if Verizon gives out refurbs with out notice, who knows what you have.
FT = "Front", maybe? The tech might have written that on the board so he knew which way to put it back into the case, perhaps?
