Over the past week or 2, I've noticed a change in how my T720 handles voice mail. I had my Voicemail Setup to automatically dial *86 with a wait key and my password. No problems. Now I go to the message center, confirm the message time, hit 'call' but it only dials *86 and i have to manually enter my password. The Voice Mail message from VZW now shows the call back number as *86 so I'm sure the phone is doing a 'call back' instead of going through my Voicemail Setup.

Anybody notice this or have a suggestion to work around to get back the old functionality? Don't bother to post if your suggestion is to throw the T720 off a building. I've already thought of that.

If I understand your post, you have your T720 setup to autodial your voice mail to check messages? Perhaps its your handset. Don't think its the Verizon system. I have my T720 set the same as you described and it still works. I can voice dial/or key dial "mail" (which I have listed as an entry in my phonebook) and in either case, the phone will dial *86 the pauses and password to allow me to retrieve my messages. P.S. all you T720 haters, I've had mine since Oct. 2003 and think its a great phone!

I have Voice Mail set up as follows:
    Main Menu->Messages->Msg Center Menu->Voicemail Setup.

I guess I'll set up a phonebook entry as you've done. That should work.

I have mine setup the same way... by going under the Message menu and selecting voicemail setup. I had mine reset back to *86 before and wasn't sure why, but it's fine now. I just hit "Call" when it says I have VM waiting and it dials the full string, password and all.

I'm wondering... When you do a *228 to update your roam list, you can hit "1" to program the phone or "2" to just update the PRL. If you've done an update recently, my understanding is that "1" can reset some settings within your phone, where "2" will only affect the PRL. I've never tested this theory, but I guess there's the possibility that VZW resets the voicemail to *86 when it programs over the air, but I don't know for sure.

I just did a couple of voice mail tests and the message I get when I select Voice Mail from the Message Center looks like this:
    1 NEW VMAIL 0 URG 0
    FAX *86
    Call:*86
    9:36 pm 8/12/04

Sure enough, when I hit 'call', it dials the *86 without the password string. I did *228 to update the PRL and I may have hit 1 to program the phone instead of just updating the roaming so you may be onto something. I tried *228 to program the phone again and it didn't solve the problem.

What's odd is when there's no message and I call Voice Mail, it dials *86 with the password string. When there's a message, the call voice mail command is a call back.

Wouldn't you know it... mine is doing the same $#%@ thing now. I hadn't used the "Call" option in a while. (I usually check my VM manually by letting them pile up and then just hitting *86 when I have a minute). After I got your message, I checked my string to see if it was there and it was still fine. I went over to VM menu (no new messages, mind you) and tested. Dialed just fine, entered password and all. Today, I get a VM and decide to hit the "Call" button. Lo and behold, same thing you mentioned... it only dials *86 when there's an active message waiting. Now I'm frustrated too... :censored:

Sorry to have been misleading. I thought it was working on mine. :(

I bought my old T720 in Sept. 2002. It was a piece of crap.

You weren't misleading so don't sweat it. VZW must have changed something in their VM notification setup and the T720 can't swallow it. Only 6 weeks until I qualify for NE2 and then....V710, here I come!! :D

    Hehe... a T720 having problems?? Never... :D

I may actually be going today to pick up my 710. I may have convinced my wife to let me use her NE2 credit now. She will use mine in about 4 weeks if she wants to replace her phone. She has my old V60c and still loves it. She likes the size and quality, so she's not 100% sure about replacing it anyway.

Naa, I think they were perfectly sober. They were looking at the diagram upside down.

OK... off-topic, but I had to vent somewhere. I mentioned in my previous post that I was hopefully picking up my 710 today. Get to the store, start figuring price with the salesman, he asks how I will pay and I say "Just like I have the last few times, put it on my bill over 12 months." He replies, "We stopped doing that back at the beginning of the year." Apparently I have to cough up the $219 (after my NE2) right up front. I wasn't planning that much expense this week, so I'm gonna wait and save up a bit, I guess.

Oh, and he also kept saying it was $269. I said what's the extra $50? He replies "It's the accessory pack you'll need." It's a car charger, wired headset, and the like. All stuff I already have from my 720. He kept trying to tack that into the price like it was a requirement. Gotta love those salesguys... <sigh>
