im in the process of finding a replacement for my broken samsung X-105.. my original plan, was the T616.. but then i saw someone sellin a T630 for 280, which is about 80 bucks more than i was seeing the 616 for..i did a comparison on phonescoop.com of the two, and so far for me the only real advantage i can see is the battery life, which almost triples that of the 616..ill be using the phone for wireless internet (bluetooth) so i imagine that will be pretty taxing on the battery life? or would it be less-so than voice communication? another priority of mine, is the sms abilities..would they be better on the 630? (Talking about speed of text entry primarily, i dont care about templates) is it a more "comfortable" phone to use, do to the different key pad? is the reception superior on the 630?
when it comes down to it, i guess what im asking is, is the 630 worth the additional 80 bucks, or is it not going to be much different than the 616 and just get it, and save the money for something else?
anyone know where i can get the 630 the cheapest? im seeing it around ebay for 280.00...
    thanks! :)

I would not trust any reviews that state the T630 has better battery life than the T616. This is absolutely not true. The T630 has noticeably less battery life than the T616

Reasons to get the T616 over the T630:
*The battery life of the t630 is much less than that of the T616. Reason being, the screen of the T630 needs more power.
*The T616 has much better reception than the T630.

Reasons to get the T630 over the T616:
    *New firmware features
    *My friends feature
*Improved Display. Easier to see outside. More vibrant colors. Brighter.

argh! well, i guess we'll find out - i won an ebay auction tonight. got it for 265. if its rubbish, i shall sell and get a T616.

mind you, my battery life quote was from sony ericsson's site, not a review. according to them, 9 hours life on GSM 900, and 14 on GSM 1900.
i like the keypad on the T630 more too, when it came down to it my decision was primarily based on that..and the prospect of better battery life, which ill have to see about. i hear (from a T610 owner) the keypad on his sticks, and the keys are tiny. granted my phone isnt much bigger (X105) but still. suppose we'll see wednesday :)

Yeah, the keypad can be a decision factor.

I actually have both a T616 and T630. The T630 is definately a bigger drain on the battery. (It still lasts a very long time)

you dont happen to use t-mobile with the 630 do you? im curious if the #646# works or not. the representative i spoke with about the phone told me that unsupported phones might not work with that. not a huge deal, but i'd like it to work..

RickPaul, how do you know if the T637 has worse reception than the T616? I am waiting for Cingular to offer the T637 phone to upgrade from my Samsung flip phone.

I never stated that the T637 has worse reception than the T616. The T630 has worse reception. The T630 and T637 are different phones. Different antenna's and different firmware. Until SE releases the T637, we may never know.

YAY! my T630 FINALLY showed up, after waiting 2 weeks for the ebayer to send it... unbranded, unlocked, brand new in box, got it for 265 shipped. my thoughts right away, i love it. the reception is worse than my Samsung i think, but the strange thing is..i can have zero signal, but still maintain a conversation clearer than i could with 3-4 bars on the samsung. EVERYONE complained about the quality of my samsung, my girlfriend said this one is MUCH better. i can hear people better also.
bluetooth is amazing. i got an adapter tonight for my ibook, ive been messing around with different programs all night. i have one that displays the caller id information when someone calls right on the menu bar! another which lets me control itunes, volume, powerpoint, even use my phone as a mouse! im trying to find software that would let me use my laptop as a speakerphone. now that would be REALLY cool. anyone know of any for macos 10? :D
from what i understood, the T637 was the same as the T630 but with PTT?

I think that one of the major differences between the T637 and the T630 is that the T637 supports the 800/850 band (USA) while the T630 supports the 900 band (Global/Non USA) as the third band. So users of Cigular and ATTWS need the T637 to connect to all the towers in the US while users of T-Mobile can user either phone because T-Mobile only uses 1900 band in the US which both phones support. Because of the differences in the frequencies supported the phones should have different shaped internal antennas (similar to how 610 and 616 had different antennas). I have read that the 616 (which was released later) gets better reception than the 610 do to better antenna design but I have not yet heard about the differences in reception between the T630 and T637. By brother has a 616 and he reports similar to what you experience that he can make clear un-dropped calls even with one bar on ATTWS network.

I also heard but cannot confirm that the T637 can connect directly to instant messaging services like yahoo, MSM, and AOL. All things considered they seem to both be great phones and the Bluetooth Applications available for use on OSX are awesome. Check out Phone Agent for Customization of UI.

i cant believe this, my friend eric calls me the other day, he went to AT&T and got the T637 for 108 dollars total (after tax, etc.) because he got a new contract with them (moved from sprint) kept his old sprint number.. he works for a company that apparently has a deal with AT&T, so he got like 45% off or something. blah!

Actually, the best deal that I have seen for the T637 is at Amazon.com (new service with AT&T). Not counting sales tax and S&H you get the phone for free AND get $75.01 back after the Amazon rebate. If you prefer Cingular the phone is still free but you'll get *only* $50.01 back in rebates. Both of these offers are valid with a 1-year contract, too.

You know I really wanted to do this with Cingular, and stay with them, since I've never had any problems (actually I want to but the v710 and switch to verizon where my family is, but .... no v710 and i need the phone for the middle of next week), but I can't buy the phone with cingular service in my area. ZIP 02852, anyone know a workaround? If not I'll just buy it from the cingular store.

Are you trying to upgrade your current Cingular service? If that is the case then the Amazon deal won't work because it's for a NEW line(s) of service only. The only "workaround" I can think of is to email Amazon CS. You might want to include a couple of reference pages from other sellers to show that Cingular service IS available in your area. One other thought: I wonder if Cingular specified (to Amazon) that the deal is not available in your area because they have calculated that they won't make enough money.

I am trying to upgrade my service, but I don't even get to that stage with it. As soon as I find the t637 and enter my zip code, it becomes not available.

    Thanks..

That's because the Amazon deal is for new line(s) of service only - not upgrades. Probably best to talk to Cingular about upgrading. But, in that case, I would wait a few months until the SE K700i is released in the U.S.

It's not just that, apparently Amazon can't sell Cingular phones in my area. All I have to give them for information is my zip code and I can't get a cingular phone, ANY Cingular phone. Stinks. Maybe I can convice the local Cingular store to sell me one cheap, if I threaten to switch to ATT and get it off Amazon.... :D

I tried entering ZIP code 02852 at the Cingular Online Store and they have the T637 for $79.99 after a $50 rebate. Please note that a 2-year contract is required. Maybe Cingular has some kind of exclusivity deal for MA - ?

I am thinking about getting the T637 from AT&T for -75 bucks on Amazon.com. First, does anyone know what kind of contract that requires? one or two year?

Second, does anyone know if there is a functional difference between getting the T637 and just and unlocked T630. I know there are some frequency differences, but I was wondering if AT&t locked anything up or cut back on any features that would be in an unlocked T630.

I mainly want to be able to sync the thing with outlook, and use it as a bluetooth modem for a handheld.

    Thanks for the help.

Contract term is your choice: either a 1 or 2 year term qualifies for the $200 rebate. Rebate offer expires at midnight on July 28, btw. Amazon rebate form.

    Hello Folks;

I have a question about the T616. I bought my wife a T616 that was originally branded to AT&T Wireless and since had it unlocked so that we could switch to TMobile. Now, it seems, though a colleague of hers who has a TMobile branded phone has excellent reception coverage & signal stregth, my wife does not. I personally have an iPaq 6315 & work 3 blocks away & also have excellent coverage. Are there any hidden codes or settings (aside from the usual automatic roaming settings) in the T616 that anyone is aware that can be activated so as to enhance her reception on the TMobile network? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I recently purchased a t637 on Ebay. What a mistake ! I did like the phone while it worked, but that was only for about 3 months. The return key froze up and wouldn't work, making it impossible to navigate through the menu. I contacted sony Ericcson and they told me to send it in to the service center along with the receipt and they would take care of it. I did so and they called saying the receipt was not valid, it didn't have enough info onit, including a logo from the store where I purchased it! I contacted the store and was sent a new receipt with all the criteria met according to the service person I talked to on the phone. After about a week My UNrepaired phone shows up at my door. Now they say the receipt must be forged because I didn't send That one along the first time. Once again I talk to them on the phone and they tell me I need a receipt with all info on it. I faxed the receipt to them to look at and they deny it because it doesn't have a company logo on it. i talked to the store owner and they inform me that they have never had a logo and this was rediculous. I now have a phone that I payed 150.oo for that does not work. I will NEVER purchase a Sony Ericcson product again. I'm glad I found thyis out now because my family is all eligable for upgrades in december and will all be buying new phones.I'm thinking Motorola......

    What a retarded review.
You bought a phone off eBay. Who knows what it went through or what the store/previous owner did to it before it got into your hands. The lesson is buyer beware when looking to get things off eBay. Why do you blame SE for your lack of common sense:loony:
