Hi I found that Prepaid and FlexPay coverage map are the same as monthly pay coverage map.. that includes roaming.. HOWEVER, I found this.. Now I'm confused. So say I go to Alaska to play that is marked on the map as 850 MHz Roaming Coverage, will I be able to roam with T-Mobile prepaid SIM card?
Wirelessly posted (Quint's Pearl: BlackBerry8130/4.3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105) If the prepaid map says 850 roaming, then it's available. When they initially offered 850 roaming, it was only available to contracted users. But now, if the prepaid maps indicate coverage, odds are that you'll be covered. The FAQs haven't been updated in quite a while.
The prepaid/flexpay interactive map is not exactly the same as the regular plan map, although it looks very similar. If the prepay map shows roaming coverage then I would believe it. I have not found any issues with the maps.
I've checked T-Zones FAQ... Can I roam internationally? - Not at this time Can I roam on other networks within US? - Yes, for more deatils.. (blah blah blah) it was in T-Mobile To Go section so I assume I'm good.
I just called T-Mo customer care AND a local store. They both said that Pre-Pay now includes 850MHz. They also said that Pre-Pay covers 98% of the area that post pay (contract) covers. They had no idea where that 2% was. I have family in east-central New Mexico & that area is covered. I did not think to ask about Alaska, sorry. Mike
If the map shows it, it should be. The places that you can't roam on prepaid would generally only be if the local carrier doesn't support pre-paid roaming billing (remember you need real-time billing for prepaid). This system is known as CAMEL (Customised Applications for Mobile Enhanced Logic) and not every tiny operator supports it. The only thing that might change for Alaska is the GSM network there (Dobson) was bought by AT&T. T-Mobile and AT&T don't like to roam on each other and disallow it in most cases. I really can't see T-Mobile disallowing roaming in Alaska though...
That looks like it would be bad news for you depending on what part of PA you're in. As for me, I was in Emmitsburg MD. in 1982 & went as far into PA. as Gettysburg so I think I'm safe! Mike
nope, although im still right in the dead spot.. even though map says i should get coverage, i do about 300 feet away from my house... good enough
Wirelessly posted (Quint's Pearl: BlackBerry8130/4.3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105) I'm not seeing them disallowing AT&T roaming anytime soonn either. T-Mobile blocks AT&T roaming wherever both are available, most of the time. In Georgia, for instance, they roam on AT&T 1900 sites where T-Mobile has no service.
It'd be really great if they program their phones to allow roaming when T-Mobile doesn't get any not only where they know there is no coverage.
Wirelessly posted (Quint's Pearl: BlackBerry8130/4.3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105) I agree... I considered T-Mobile for postpay service, but they don't roam at all in my area... And AT&T has all GSM coverage in these parts... And T-Mobile only roams on the 1900 sites 50 miles away from me. So, I will only have them for prepaid for now.
yea Quint i can see why it wouldnt work for you. TMOB are pretty decent in most of GA however, except rural. but as soon as me and my dad goto FL we forward his phone to mine (ATT) otherwise he will miss important calls because his is very in and out.
They don't "program" their phones to roam. Roaming permission is in the switch. You can't "program" a GSM phone. Either the switch will allow roaming or it won't. Usually it's the home carrier that allows the visited carrier to provide service. If the home carrier doesn't want you to be allowed to roam on another system you can't and can only make emergency (911/112) calls.
So, you cant roam on IMMIX Wireless w/ prepaid? (I'm guessing thats the area since Ive roamed on them a few times taking trips down I-390). That's crap. I guess they just dont have the infrastructure in place to bill to prepaid. C'est la vie. Go with ATT or VZW for prepaid then.
i'm not quite sure where did this come form i dont see any IMMIX wireless anywhere in my area... never saw it in my life
It's true, that the network controls the roaming. But it isn't totally as black or white as Telekom implies either. There are handover algorithems that can be tweaked to control the roaming. For example: You have T-MOB and start losing signal as you drive out of the city. The phone will report to the network that it's losing signal, and it sees a good ATT signal. The network will say "No, you stay with T-MOB until you reach -100 dBm or SNR 16 (or whatever bad quality)". Only when your phone reports it reached the worst allowed conditions will the T-MOB network allow you to handover to ATT. So, really what Barciurek asked is kind of possible. But the problem would be getting the T-MOB customer back on the T-MOB network when their coverage got good again. Because once you handover to ATT, then you're in their network and T-MOB has no control over it. Unless they made some additional agreement with ATT. But I dunno about that...So that's probably why they just cut it up into areas where you can roam, and areas where you can't.
Well I never used national roaming as I don't live in US long enough. I only used international roaming and there on the border I had full signal with my native network, switched to foreign to try and it got me full signal too.
If you are an international roamer your phone (should) if you have automatic network selection go to the first/best network it can find provided your home network allows roaming on that network. If the signal gets to be unusable on a given network you will be automatically switched to the best network to process your call. This is the usual way it works for an international roamer since the home network often (but not always) has agreements with more than one network.
Would T-Mobile To Go work in Eddyville, OR ? (look it up, seemingly nobody has coverage there, except AT&T, not even VZW)
