I am considering an Ericsson T39 for my existing T-Mobile service. However, I am wondering if people have ran into trouble using unlocked GSM phones with VoiceStream/T-Mobile's service. Is their customer service helpful on issues that arise? What do I have to watch out for? Thanks for your input.

You won't have any problems per se - it will work as long as it's unlocked - but VS Customer Support won't help you with technical issues regardinhg your phone since it is not an offically supported phone.

I see. Appreciate the input. I assume that voicemail messages and forwarding and all that stuff will work just like any other GSM phone, right? And it doesn't matter whether they are T-Mobile branded or not.

yes, the phone will work just like it was a branded phone. Of course as you already know, for example, T-M uses SMS for VM notification as opposed to the tape icon. That's a T-M thing that would be the same no matter what phone you use.
