OK, I've been with Verizon in NYC for many years now since it offers the best (or what I deem to be the best) service in the area...

I have been waiting for Verizon to come out with the Treo, supposedly soon, but not yet....

My company is now offering the Treo for free through T Mobile... so I am now in a quandry...

How is T Mobil's service in NYC? Across the nation?
How is the RF on the T Mobile TREO?

Thanks for any help and information.

You'll probably get a bunch of opinions on T-Mobile service. I have only been to NYC a few times (Manhattan) but it worked fine for me, as has the service everywhere I have wanted to use it, which for me is VA, MD, PA, NJ primarily. Keep in mind, you need to look at the coverage map and see where it WON'T work (any non-pink area) and make sure it meets your needs. I've had T-Mobile almost 4.5 years here in DC Metro and have no intention of leaving. Can't comment about the Treo though.

dont just change over yet...give it one more week. I got some good news today about the treo from our corp sales rep. tmobile is great in nyc, as is every other provider. but get outside the city and it really falls apart.

I think it would be fair to say that T-mobile, "overall", has the worst coverage in the NY/NJ market. Even a look at their coverage map compared to others will be informative.
That being said, if you limit your cell use to your office, home or major roads, & T-mobile happens to be fine there, you may be satisfied.
I would bet, however, that going from the area's "about the best" coverage carrier, to "about the worst" coverage carrier, will be noticable to you....

    appreciate all the info...

i saw the maps - the disparity in coverage is way to much for me to switch, even for a free treo

I'm going to hold out with verizon and see if they ever get going with the treo... or the v710 (if it ever comes out) and prob. just use a goodlink for email

"good news" for verizon means never will be released....

i called verizon (customer service, not a store) yesterday and they said they were anticipating a launch date(it was in their computer system) for the treo and that they (the service reps) should recive info on it soon... (on a side note, they had no info on the v710)

today i called and they had no info at all for the treo.... some "good news"

In my expierences, those large patches of coverage that Verizon has on the maps, where other carriers are dead, are in fact dead with Verizon too. Might as well try T-Mobile, where they provide service, they usually have good service.

i don't want to mixup the threads, so I posted down in the Treo for Verizon thread in the Palm OS categories, but there is an ad in the 7/12/04 fortune magazine, pg 37, which has the the treo being offered by all the wirless carriers INCLUDING VZW

In NYC, T-Mobile is not that bad at all. The problem starts when you step out of the 5 boroughs or when you go into buildings. Now, in NJ, as Meatchicken stated, T-Mobile is the worst of all, but that doesn't mean they are horrible. It just means that the rest of the providers are better (except Cingular since they share the same network as T-Mo, so they are just as bad). Since we both live in the same area, we know it for a fact. :D

My corp rep had sales training on the treo today. Looks like next week is happening.
