This is a new service that builds off of our wi-fi calling feature, Similar to vonage but cheaper 9.99 per month, you get a Tmobile router (required Tmobile Router it has a sim in it) and you can plug any phone in it that you want we recommend a 6.0 MgHz cordless model from v-tech, but you can use any phone that you want really. You also must have an existing broadband connection and you have to have at least one line with us already for a cell and you can port your home phone number or we can activate a number for you, curious if anybody has tried this and how it's working for you.
I have not seen $15 mentioned anywhere. T-Mobile @Home The site says $10, but the commercial is kind of stupid.
I only ask because during the "trial" it was $10. And I saw after the trial that it was $15. Maybe they decided to go back to $10 and keep that for a while. I wouldn't doubt that it would go up to $15. I just wish they'd let anyone on any plan get the service. It's $10 they wouldn't have had if they didn't use the service.
or you could get a phone that has wifi and just install Skype and its like 3 bucks for unlimited US calling and dirt cheap international. its a win win over the wifi at home. cheaper and better.
The main advantage this has over using Skype/SIP on your phone is that it has E911 information and you can use cheap phones. That way you can let your small kids or guests use the phone and not worry about it. Plus, there area lot of people that don't have a data plan on their phone. $10/month is cheaper than the integrated solution from the cable company here. If I had ANY need for a home phone, I'd get it, but my son still just puts the phone in his mouth.
i dont see why T-Mobile is coming out with this.....everyone is getting rid of landlines.....yeah the cell phones workig on WiFi networks is cool and having unlimited calling in your home is cool.......but adding another line for your landline just isnt the thing anymore.....and if they have cellphones that are WiFi capable i dont see why people would go through the hassle of getting a second number
Everyone is not getting rid of their landlines, there is a HUGE market for this service, for example, you have a home security/satellite/DVR system that needs to have a landline, this can be used for that and provide you a phone as well, not only that but there are lots of parents out there that have teenagers that may be home during the day, suppose something happens and your cell doesn't always work in your house, or your kid always keeps the damn phone on vibrate (kids are notorious for this) they don't answer, you now have a landline that is cheaper than the normal to rely on.
To clarify, this isn't just $10/mo. It's $10/mo added to your existing $39.99 (or higher) stand alone plan or $49.99 (or higher) family plan. In addition you need a T-Mobile@Home HiPort that is $50+tax with a 24-month contract.
Excuse me as not being up to date on current W.A. discussions on this matter, but I believe there was a previous thread on this subject. It is $10.00 a month added to your bill, I have the service. When it works, it is spectacular. I think it was stated that if you had any $39.00 or above plan SIM inserted into any WIFI phone it would work. You can buy an unlocked Samsung t409 on EBAY. Life is GOOD. I also think that if you look on the Service Agreement included in the phone box, YOU CAN MAKE LOCAL CALLS ANYWHERE THE U.S. FOR FREE FROM EUROPE OR ANYWHERE , ON A COMPUTER, FROM ANY WIFI CONNECTION. You can not make local European or Asian calls outside the U.S. Do you realize what this means? Call home for free, or any state. Minutes do apply. Am I wrong? They give you the wireless router, at least they gave one to me. Your computer loves it. I always re-up with t-Mobile because they are/ I are cheap so I have a new two year contract. Here are the problems with the service. My phone constantly roams to AT&T 850 rather than going to @home. I get a wonderful message saying emergency calls only. The 409 easily gets corrupted and customer service says to "restore settings" code oooooooo. When the instrument , the phone, matches the service they will have a killer app. How do you write T-Mobile with snail mail?
You are referringto unlimited hot spot calling, the service mentioned in this thread is different, the router is different it actually has a sim card in it and the phone used is a regular land line unit that plugs into the router, this is a home phone service, you can write to tmobile snail mail through the website the contact us link provides the following, I cust and pasted it so here you go, but if you're having issues with the service best thing is to call. If they had come out with this a few years ago, I would have ported my landline number to it instead of to my work cell phone. T-Mobileman, do you know if there's a limit on adding this? I mean, I have a Family Time plan with my line (the primary) and four partners. IIRC, that's the maximum number of lines allowed on my plan. Would I still be able to add this to my account?
you would not be able to add it to the family plan but you should be able to add it as a stand alone acct, because you do have a family plan already and are paying at least 49.99 for it. I say should because that is the same question I asked when going through the training for this new service and I got the deer in the headlights look from the facilitator. (I love stumping the trainers). I was told that at this time that may not be possible, and then someone said it was so I can't say for sure. I have actually asked my internal business support this same question and have not had a response yet, as soon as I know, you will, probably Monday or Tuesday night. Sorry I don't have an answer for sure right now.
man that is the question of the week at tmobile....I have about 4 people at work researching this, the GM from my call center came and asked me how I came up with this, I lied and said a customer asked me and I couldn't say for sure. He is now looking into it for me as well with our national team. Hopefully tomorrow I will have an answer for sure.

spleck i apologize, i dont think i was clear, i was referring to using skype on a home computer with a skype phone ( or phone that will work with it). you would save money in the long run. yes you wouldnt have E911 but a cellphone (even one that isnt active but that is modern) will do E911 and would just need to be charged up. so essentially the method im talking about would be better based off of the fact that it would be 3.99 a month with no contract, and you can also do Video conferencing with it as well. just a thought
ok here's the answer for the five line family plan question...sorry it took so long but finally got a confirmation today about this. At this time the limit of 5 lines per family plan apply, in the near future (no definate date given) an update to our billing system will allow an additional 6th line to be added if it is a tmobile @home line only. So the answer is no you can't add this to your maxed out fam plan now but hopefully soon that option will be available.
I am fascinated by this service - I would like to get it, but I have 2 problems. First I have DSL, so I have to keep the land line, I am 99% sure Embarq will NOT provide a dry loop in my service area. Next, I have a home security systemand I can't give up the monitoring. A lot of the VOIP solutions warn that they cannot provide modem service to a security system - which makes sense. I'm in a minority, though. I bet it makes sense to a lot of folks, heck how can you go wrong for $10 if you just need a simple home phone and you already have a cable modem like most do. There is some product confusion with wi-fi phones and the @Home, I'm seeing it happening on other boards, too. Wi-fi is where your cell phone is a model that can switch to wi-fi, which is great if there's no signal in your house or say, you're in another country. @Home lets you use your plain old phones, the service runs over your highspeed connection and billing is handled by your TMO account.
more specifically speaking....the service where your wifi enabled cell uses wifi networks to make calls is called Hotspot@Home and the SIM enabled router landline service is T-Mobile@Home
