This news item is a bit odd. The discontinuation of the Sidekick was widely expected, and it was assumed that the myTouch3G Slide was going to be T-Mobile's suggested replacement/upgrade path. But the spokesman talks about "the next iteration of the T-Mobile Sidekick" and "exciting updates in the months ahead", while Eric Zeman of PhoneScoop's summary is, "T-Mobile has end-of-life'd the Sidekick line". Huh?

I'm sure last October's Sidekick data debacle sealed the nail in the coffin for the line.

Also, the current Sidekick phones are quite long in the tooth as they came out nearly 3 years ago!

Besides, with all the new Android phones out and those soon to arrive, I'm betting they'll more than fill the void for the out-dated and soon-to-be-history Sidekicks.

T-Mobile still owns the Sidekick brand name, so there are rumors of an Android-based sidekick down the road sometime....

Ah, so what you're saying is, there could be an "exciting update" and a "next iteration" that would be called a Sidekick, but wouldn't involve any Danger/Microsoft technology. That I can believe and it would make this odd news item make sense (sort of) - it's both the end and not the end. But if it's really going to be an Android phone, why call it a Sidekick? Android is a hip brand at this point. Hiptop/Sidekick is old school.

I've heard this too, and am curious as to what this new "Android Sidekick" will be like, on the other hand...

I'm with you on this Steve. IMO, it's time for T-Mobile to move on from the "Sidekick" brand. Considering all the problems they faced with it last year, it's time for something new, which this new Android-based Sidekick-like device could be.
