T-Mo v. AT&T GSM in S.F. Bay Area Has AT&T GSM service improved in the S.F. Bay area? How does it compare to T-Mo? In December 2002, when I had both services, I felt T-Mo provided slightly better service than AT&T GSM. I'm wondering whether AT&T has improved. Has anyone made any comparisons more recently this year?
In the Seattle area, ATTWS GSM is the worst coverage money can buy--even worse than Qwest. SF is another really hard area to cover well, and unless ATTWS has added a ton of sites in the past year, I doubt you'll have good coverage there, either.
Well, I can tell you first hand that At&T GSM works great in the bay area. About two weeks ago I was staying in Mill valley (another hard place to cover) and had great service during my visit. Went all over the city and even drove down to Modesto to visit my aunt, I had great coverage the whole way down. Very surprised to see At&T out perform my Nextel in a lot of places. TProphet, I hate to disagree with you butt... NO ONE is worst then Qwest!!!
"Very surprised to see At&T out perform my Nextel in a lot of places." Out here the west, it's not surprising at all. Much of Northern California has zero Nextel coverage, including my home of Mendocino County, 2 hours north of San Francisco.
Thanks for your responses, guys. So it appears that ATT GSM has continued their improvement in the S.F. Bay Area. When I was on it last November - December, I noticed some improvements. At that time, I expected them to surpass T-Mo shortly. When my contract with T-Mo expires in January, I think I'll switch back to ATT.
Test it out first before you change over. I normally hear one of 2 things about ATT GSM, love or hate. ATT GSM will only get better when the overlay is finished sometime in our lifetime.
I have ATT GSM with a Nokia 6610 (from HK) and I've been happy with coverage in the bay area. When driving around, the coverage is getting close to Verizon's level. The only thing I don't like is the weak signal in shopping malls.
it seems that opinions vary as coverage providers... especially in the Bay Area. The word from Financial Centre types is Verizon. JD Power rates AT&T as highest satifaction, West Oakland buds all have Sprint; they all castigate Cingular... What's one to do if he doesn't even know whether his Motorola V60i phone is GSM or TDMA and trying to make a decision before the thirty day deadline. All things being equal the mitigating factor is I'm mad at AT&T for not prorating the cancellation of an old account dating back to Cellular One days- they're making me pay a month for five days- "new policy from May 2003" they say. which seems like a money grab. Otherwise basic voice in the City and Oakland was fine.
