I am currently with Verizon and out of contract since October 2011. A friend of mine works at US Cellular and is trying hard to get me to switch. My first impression is that I can get a better plan from US Cellular and save money. I currently have a semi smart phone (LG ENV3) and I am looking to get a true smartphone and I have decided I want to get an Android phone. Money is a factor and I want to spend $100 or less (preferably free) on my new phone. I guess the question is how is USC's coverage and should I switch? I am not a world traveler so I am only concerned with US coverage. Thanks.

If you want a smartphone you'll be required to get a plan that includes data. Plans range in price from $40 to $110 per month depending on whether you want an "unlimited" plan or a plan that requires you to pay $3 per day for data. I didn't see whether you'd be billed $3 every day or only on days when you use data. At any rate here's the page with data and voice minutes. It looks like they have several Android phones including one that would be free (with a commitment) and other phones for $50 up to $180. You'll have to determine what works best for you.

Thanks for the reply, yes I am familiar with the data plan requirement and that is part of the reason I want to switch. I can get 5GB for $10 less (a month) then I can get a comparable plan with Verizon that offers 2GB. I text more then I talk so I want the 450min unlimited text plan. I will sign a contract with 1 of the 2 just haven't decided which one yet.

I can't speak for US cellular coverage in Knoxville, but in Nebraska we use it and it works great.

We traveled to Ohio,Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah on vacations and we had no issues. We were roaming, but not paying for it.
