I heard that SUNCOM was going under...true? If they are being purchased by another company, what does that mean for my current contract / UNPLAN?

SunCom has not gone under, but it's only a matter of time. They were recently delisted from the NYSE

There could be alot of possibilities with plans.
Obviously, when another provider takes over you can't back or to an older plan.
If a plan is post pay and your provider changes in most cases it will be honored until you change it (once it has been changed you usually can't go back).
Month to month prepay plans can be cut by the next provider since there is only a month to month contract.

Some providers could force you to change to one of there plans when you upgrade your phone as well.

Another possibility is the company will let people leave if any drastic changes are made to the customer's contract (like forced migration to unfavorable plans while in contract).

They're building a bunch of new towers in my area, so if they're going under you can't tell it here. BTW, Dell is being delisted from NASDAQ. Does anybody think they're going under?

At $.80 a share im sure everyone at WA can pool together and buy SunCom. :browani: As for dell, they're probably in the middle of restructuring the company right now. NASDAQ will send them a notice to get their act together.

For that matter, put me down for 1,000 shares... Now remember. We all can't buy at once, or it will send the stock price soaring.

Ok, I just thought of something...

    1. We buy up SunCom
    2. We then sell the customers to TMO.
    3. We sell off their real estste
    4. We put the spectrum up for auction on Ebay.

Its like parting out a wrecked car. The parts are worth more than the entire car.

    Jay;

If you sell off their spectrum then why would TMO want their customers?Without a network you have no customers and TMO doesn't have a network in the Carolinas.

Thats very true. I think Jay was thinking of the underpants gnome theory (for those of you who have seen the South Park episode) Stage 1: Buy SunCom Stage 2: ??? Stage 3: Profit! See how easy that was?

A lil' off topic but does anyone know why t-mobile never established themselves natively in the Carolinas?

How can they be building towers in your area if they have no cash flow? Hmmm...lets hope that the contractors still get paid b4 they go under.

Where are you in NC? I find it hard to believe they are building a bunch of towers. Suncom typically anounces when they add towers and I have not seen them do that in a while. They need to build alot of towers now that Cingular cut them off in the Carolinas.

Did Cingular cut them off? I know that Cingular gave them a real deal on roaming when they swapped the AT&T NC properties for Suncom Virginia properties. I believe Cingular gave them over a $100million also.

    :D :D

I don't think Cingular cut them off, but something happened. The Suncom national plans offer free roaming but the regional plans don't. If you look at their plans, you can choose from roam restrict or 10 cent roam even when wiithin the Carolinas. It use to be you could get a regional plan and free roam on Cingular. Suncom(or someone) has turned that off...and in the process lost TONS of territory. I have also read a lot of threads that claim Cingular customers have lost the ability to roam on Suncom. T-mobile is roaming on Suncom in the Carolinas, but not Cingular.

I believe Cingular actually did, once Cingular felt that the ATT network was good enough and they didnt need any partners for roaming, they gave pieces of the orange network to SunCom and then cancelled any roaming agreements they had with t-mobile and SunCom.

YES! YES! YES! I hearby modify that statement. We sell the customers and lease the towers & spectrum to TMO. Maybe even just outright give the customers to TMO with a lease agreement of the towers & spectrum.

    I guess they are:
    http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=8592559#post8592559
Maybe they are using the $$ from the sale of their towers to add some MUCH needed sites. What happens when that $$ is gone?

I 2nd the vote, as for Dobson maybe we should start small with Suncom, then when we sell everything to T-Mobile, we can use the money to get Dobson & see which carrier wants to bid the highest for them & their customers. :D
