I live in South Carolina and lately, for the last 2-3 months, my service has been horrendous. Literally half of my calls get dropped and people always complain of not being able to hear me or there is too much static. I have called Suncom 5 times for this reason and have been cut off all 5 times. They do not call you back. It feels as though their technology is from many years ago when cell phones dont work well. Recently, I discovered that my phone is using the older TDMA technology Suncom is trying to get rid of, and that they are switching to GSM. But what happens to customers like me? I havent been notified. I havent been asked if I would mind my service turning to crap daily. every time I talk with their representive it is like they want to get me off the phone the very minute they pick up the line. One rep suggested that I get a new phone that uses GSM. Brilliant idea, but it will cost me $150+ for a phone, not including whatever service and fees they feel like charging. They make it clear that im currently in the middle of my contract. Buying out of my contract would cost around $200. What in the world can I do? It must be illegal or something for them to do this to their customers isnt it? Signing up for Suncom was one of the worst mistakes Ive EVER made. I just want the service I agreed to, and am STILL paying for. It feels like im giving them free money. I get nothing but headaches in return.
Well if you see that signing up with suncom was a mistake then i would definitely not sign up for a GSM plan/phone. They are indeed not that great of a company. You could try calling supervisors and try to get out of your contract or have part of the EArly termination fee waived. I hear nothing but complaints about SunCom these days.
As i understand all the old TDMA towers are being converted to gsm if they have not been already this would explain your service going downhill. My sis just switched to gsm from TDMA and they gave her a phone for free.Go to your local Suncom store and they will take care of you.
Yep your biggest problem is Suncom TDMA. It is not getting any better. Suncom roams on Cingular. Cingular has pretty good coverage in the Carolinas except for the Western North Carolina area. Try to get them to upgrade your plan to GSM.
Your problem is SunCom period. SunCom is the worst wireless company to deal with. My mother had a lot of problems with them and she wrote a letter on planetfeedback.com to them. They actually let her out of her contract with no ETF. So you might want to try that route, if you are lucky they just might let you cancel without a termanation fee.
Cingular is king in the Myrtle Beach area and quite good throughout the rest of the state. Everywhere except Myrtle Beach, Verizon is considered very good in SC. Good luck with Suncom, hopefully you can switch!
I don't know if you have searched the Southern Forum for suncom but there are afew posts about this. Here's one http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/showthread.php?t=10000&highlight=suncom This may help.
I 've never had anything but good experiences with Cingular. My Brother in law had Suncom about 2 years ago, and they were awful - poor signal, outrageous roaming charges in his own home area, then when he wanted to switch to AT&T, their "Partner" they wouldn't let him. When his contract expired he switched to Cingular and has not looked back...
