I lost signal completely this afternoon - the phone just showed a "Emergency Only" display. Suddenly, after about 30 minutes, the phone came back alive and lo and behold, the Cingular name had disappeared from the display, replaced by AT&T. Weird....

There was a data outage earlier. I couldn't get on the Internet on any of my phones. Works fine for me now.

This was a huge outage earlier. I believe everyone in the country was having this issue. Had error messages ranging from "Data packet corrupt" to "invalid access point name". It only lasted about an hour though and we fixed it... we were swamped with calls when it happened. Glad they fixed it quickly.

Well I can say here in Utah there was something wrong with them as well. I had co workers who could not make calls for about 45 minutes. LOL they came to me and I said I have no idea.

The "strange" part was not the outage itself (I'm used to that with AT&T after more than 10 years with AT&T...:lmao:...) but the fact that when the service came back on, the Cingular banner disappeared and was replaced by the AT&T banner. It was almost like something in the central office got rebooted during the outage and downloaded the new banner to all the phones in the PDX area.....

That's odd. My phones all changed to AT&T a while ago, although I still know some people with Motorolas and Samsungs that still say Cingular.

That is odd indeed, but hey, at least you are now officially part of the new at&t, lol.

My 3G SIM changed several weeks back, but my old 64k "Orange" SIM only changed late last week - no national service outage required though. LOL!!

Well from what I heard is that teh utage started onthe west coast and some how part of the north east got effected too. I know for me I was not effected on the BB. Now as to the SIM, I still have one 64K 3G SIM that still shows Cingular on the screen. I think they sent the OTA for it while it was out of country and it was not used durring that month so the OTA sat there and then never arrived.

Does anyone know if these outages affect all of AT&T's wireless networks (Analog, TDMA, GSM, and UMTS) when they occur?

well i have a lot of friends and im from Reading, PA just an hour NW of Philly and none of my Cingy friends told me about an outage

i would epect only GSm at this point cuz not many of the TDMA systems and Analog systems intertwine with the main GSM network anyway............but UMTS and GSM come ye to eye a lot
