Hello all- I am a Verizon customer and I recently upgraded to a RAZR V9m. I've decided to try my hand at putting some custom ring tones on it but everything I've tried so far has failed. I wondered if anyone knows of a successful way to get ringtones from my computer to my phone? Here’s what I’ve tried so far: Making ring tones on Phonezoo and texting them to myself [I didn’t really expect this to work since there is no longer any option to ‘Save as a ringtone’ but, hey, I tried] Sending a text with an attachment to MyPixPlace and then ‘forwarding’ it to my phone [ditto above] Uploading to version 4.51c on MPT and manually choosing a CDMA modem. [This failed because V9mm is not on the list of choices; only V9mc which has Multimedia but the transfer icon is grayed out, and V9mS which does not have MM and won't recognize my phone] Running MSU and P2kCommander versions v4.9.D and v4.9.E [D failed to recognize my phone and E blue screens my computer whenever I try to open drive a] I don’t have a BT enabled PC to work with so I can’t try that option – not sure if the phone will recognize any device but hands free without hacking anyway… REALLY don’t want to seem edit the phone if I don’t have to; I did that to my last phone (V3m) and it worked great but I want that to be my last option – can’t find info for it on the V9m anyway. So, that’s where I am. I’ve been working on this for 2 frustrating days and now I’m seeking help. Anyone had success? Regards
Verizon has worked hard to disable people putting their own ringtones and graphics and tones on their own phones. Verizon wants you to give up and buy the media from them. There is a way to do it, but you have to hack the phone first. Sorry, I don't have any details as I do not own any CDMA phones, but if you search the Verizon and Motorola forums I have seen this issue discussed, and workarounds published many times. -Jay
Thank you for your response Jay. It’s not good news that I will likely have to hack the phone but I’ll will if I have to. I had done several searches of the Verizon forum before posting my message but I wasn’t able to find any current posts dealing specifically with the V9m. I don’t remember if I searched the Moto forum so I’ll do that per your suggestion. In the meantime, if anyone knows of anything to direct me further I would appreciate the information. Thank you guys for providing this service to all of us. Your depth of knowledge is really amazing and I, for one, appreciate having somewhere to turn to get help and options. Regards
Update: I'm half way there! I bought a BT dongle for my laptop and was able to move my existing .qcp files onto the phone and see/play/use them as ringtones. However, the .mp3 files that I renamed as .qcp files got the server error msg when I tried to put them in the ringtone folder. I'm going to play with it some more tonight to see if .mp4 or this other .qcp "trick" I read about, will work. I'll keep you posted. Meantime, I'm still looking for help/advice/info/links. My problem is not solved yet. Regards
 Update: I am very happy to report that my problem is solved! The BT transfer method did the trick. All is well in my world now. I found the following link to be very helpful: Mark_Venture's Verizon Phone Info Page Regards
