The day after Tgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year (or so I'm told). I'm actually going to try to get some shopping out of the way early this year b/c I'm so poor I need to spread out the spending - lol! What are some good stocking stuffers you've gotten in the past? For various family members I'm thinking: iTunes gift certificate, DVDs, candles, bubble bath, one of those Burt's Bees sampler packs, boxer shorts.... Any great ideas?
I would watch it on personal care products. To me a gift of bubble bath would equate to "you stink, take a bath" My favorites are usually best buy gift cards.
lol! There are some people that I WISH I could give soap to, but alas they are not in the family!! The personal care stuff is more for my mom and sister, they like getting lotion, soap, face masks, etc. My mom's on a big Burt's kick right now b/c it's all-natural and they sell it at our supermarket. On a side note, personal bath products actually helped my mom and stepdad foil a pickpocket in the Paris metro - they were getting heisted (no weapon or anything) and my stepdad had this huge bag of shampoo, etc and he smacked the dude in the head with it and then knocked him over. I don't know WHAT the guy was thinking my stepdad is a big dude!
LOL, that's the funniest shampoo story I've heard yet. I think the Old Spice gift set that has soap on a rope, aftershave, & deodorant was put on the market at the request of mothers with 13 year old boys... LOL
haha, we used to give my brother SO much heat b/c all he would give my mom was candles and bubble bath. Seriously. For like 10 Christmas' in a row, finally we were like, "Dude, you're 20, buy a real gift"!!! I also have to hit up Toys R Us too for my neices and nephews, I haven't been there in forever, but I'm excited. They have this Big Book of Toys that I was looking at on online, how come they didn't have this stuff when I was a kid? We totally got jipped (see the Oregon Trail thread for bogue games of the 80s*!) *I'm not hating on Oregon Trail, I love it, but proves the point!
I loved the video games I played on my Commodore 64, and at least Oregon Trail had pictures. Games like Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy and Planetfall! were text only but still extremely addictive. I can remember getting halfway through the game only to find that I forgot to pick up the mail in the beginning of the game, so I was unable to acquire my babel fish because the cleaning robot kept getting it. LOL
Chap stick, lotion, duct tape, electrical tape, a tire pressure gauge, batteries, blank tapes, burnable CDs, cheap DVDs, fingernail clippers, pens, small notepads, a six pack of Guinness Draught, HEET cold start fluid for cars, work gloves, cheap cell phone accessories. Notice a lot of these things are very handy in winter.
Usually small, expensive electronics are always awesome to put in the stockings and then put all the big, normal stuff under the tree
1988 Honda Prelude 2.0S... which, incedentally, tried to kill me on Monday. It decided that it would continue accellerating even after I took my foot off the gas and tried to use the breaks. Stupid car.
Wow! Good thing it eventually stopped. Right? That would be dangerous around here with all of our season traffic.
The problem is when you are given personal care products that you don't use. I'm very particular about the products I use. For example, for cologne I only use Polo green. Not Drakkar, Not CK, Not Stetson, not old spice (I used to love NightSpice but they don't make that anymore) etc... For me it is the worst gift in the world to get a bottle of stuff I'll never use. If you don't know the products I use please just buy me boxer shorts or a best buy giftcard.
I agree, getting personal care stuff you don't use is kind of bogue - one year my mom got both my sister and I MY perfume and my sister was like... ummm...not only do I NOT wear this perfume, but SHE wears it! haha, it was pretty funny, we still joke about it. So yeah, it can be tricky - that's why I think I'm going to get some of those Burt's Bees sampler packs, little bit of everything, shows a little creativity but you don't go out on a limb or anything! I can't believe this week is Thanksgiving! A week ago I didn't even realize it was this week I figured it out when my mom started talking about flights home and after a brief and confusing exchange I figured out what was going on - man it really snuck up on me this year.
