Any new info on T-Mobile's 3G plans? I'm especially interested in the Los Angeles market. Are they waiting for hardware or is the spectrum still not available for use? T-Mobile still does not offer any high end TV, video or Navigation services which could bolster sales and consumer interest. I wonder why they're being so quiet about it?
It should be fairly soon, I heard that most of the equipment is upgraded but things aren't quite ready. You'll probably see ATT turn it on first with TMobile following quickly after.
Back in late 06, they mentioned they had hardware in place in some big metro areas and expect an initial launch by mid 07. I wonder if it'll be difficult to get big name manufacturers to release blockbuster type phones like the highly anticipated v9 series using the 1700 MHz band?
I thought one of the upcoming Samsungs (t629)? that was rumored to be released by TMO in September was UMTS compatible.
Matt, I think the phone your talking about is the t639 that the FCC was so nice to let us know about. I can't wait for 3G! FCC Approves First 3G phone for T-Mobile (Phone Scoop)
one thing we have to keep in mind about the Cali area is that there is still that issue about network ownership between AT&T and T-Mobile...........thats still unraveling... yes T-Mobile was installing UMTS equipment before they even had the licenses to use it.........most metro areas had it months after the spectrum was given to them.........New York was the big area for pre-spectrumed upgrades though....... btw.........have any other phones been approved for T-Mobiles UMTS service?
some links with pics and specs: Electronista | Samsung t639 to become T-Mobile's first 3G phone SAMSUNG Forums the release date???? September 10th
ah the N95......thatll be interesting.........and the other one im not too familiar with one thing ive noticed though is that none of these phones yet support both frequencies.....why is that.........couldnt that cripple coverage? or how is T-Mobile going about the rollout............will all markets broadcast UMTS on both frequencies???
The N95 would be so sweet on T-Mobile, but as you said, T-Mo's 3G frequency isn't available on it. Maybe soon Nokia will add it. I sure hope they do.
I just want a 3G Curve that I could use for email and work related calls. I'm not really into regular handsets anymore as I get older. I hope T-Mobile uses 1700 MHz to beef up voice around here too. Maybe the voice quality codec will be enhanced as well? That would be great.
T-Mobile has licenses for 1700MhZ and 2100Mhz in all markets i think........and thats just for the UMTS...............so they now have three phones approved but none of them support both frequencies
I hope when T-Mobile finally activates their 3G service, their selection of 3G phones goes beyond just another slew of cookie-cutter Samsung phones. T-Mobile seems to love Samsung and I've never figured out why. I can't stand Samsuck, I mean Samsung. I know I may be in the minority of Samsung haters, but I hope there are some Nokias, Motorolas, and HTC models that will be available. I'm crossing my fingers.
well they did mention that Nokia Nxx model that is gonna have it............and personally im not a big fan of some of the Samsungs reception............but the firmware and interface sure are fast.........although i do like Nokias very much and Motos because they are so easy to hack
Do you remember which "N" model in particular? I must have missed this info. I hope you're right. I wasn't too thrilled with T-Mobile's pathetic choices for the "Hotspot @ Home" phones. Another UGLY Samsung and a less than interesting Nokia... Where was the Nokia 6136??? Now this is a phone I would have been willing to get.
N95 and yes i saw the review on the phones and looked at them in store........nothing flashy.........your right...........just another phone............on both Samsungs and Nokias part
Ok, now I remember. I just wanted to see which "N" phone it was because Nokia keeps coming out with new ones in this series. Thanks... BTW, check out the Milestone thread...
For grammer's sake, it's probably. Now to get back on topic. I hope, by the time T-Mobile launches their 3G service, it will be worth the wait. It's taken them long enough to get this going. Good phones are only going to make it better. Ease up on the Samsungs, T-Mobile...
yeah well i dont think we have seen any Nokia Nxx series over here at all so this will be new but i think T-Mobile should focus on some Nokias................and Motorola i guess but yeah T-Mobile is laying it on heavy with the Samsungs and Samsung seems to never change their phones..........except that the more expensive they get the better the RF
Wirelessly posted (SE K790a or Z710i + HP RX3715: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320)) T639 should be around next Wed will get one and check out
well obviously they will only release it where 3G is active.........the question is...........where is it active? or where will it be active
The fact that "where" they are releasing this has not been made clear by T-Mobile was the reason for my question. No kidding they would release the phone where their 3G is active. I'm asking if anybody has heard a definitive word as to T Mobile's 3G "where and when".
well.........................they def already have it set up in NYC..................they were already 1/2 way done with it up there before before they even had the licenses............prolli just major metros.............and T-Mobile could release the phones early so that they are out and people could start using the network right away instead of paying full retail for a new phone or waiting for a contract to be up...........
