I have seen this happen in thread links, but never in a post. Here is an example: "I want you to text me." Now if this works, the "me" should be underlined, and moving the mouse over it will show "Maine ME." Why?
I just started seeing the underlining today, but only in Firefox 2.0 and the popup doesn't appear. In IE 7, I get the pop up, but not the underline.
If I had to guess, I would say that tags are being added by the forum software whenever a post contains certain state abbreviations (hi - Hawaii; me -Maine; or - Oregon; mt - Montana) but not others (in - Indiana; as - American Somoa). It potentially could be a useful feature if it worked for all of the Official USPS Abbreviations.
It is actually a new feature I just installed. Its purpose is to expand acronyms or abbreviations. For example NE or VZW. I guess it also has some drawbacks. I'll have to remove ME and maybe some others....or shut it off.
I like the way it does that with VZW. Is there a way to set it to only look at 3-letters or more? Or would that eliminate too many helpful acronyms?
3 or more would cut out all the states which is one of the best features. It also expands the state names in thread titles which helps them to be found when people search. That way the thread will be found whether they search with the name or the abbreviation.
