Hey, I found a pictorial here to disassemble my 7868W but does anyone know where I might find written instructions and possibly the specialized tool used by real phone techs? Thanks in advance

There's a fair amount of written description to accompany the photos in the guide:

You really don't need any special tools other than a set of jeweler's screwdrivers. You have to unscrew the antenna mount and pry the release tabs that lock the back cover in place. Once you get the cover off, the various pieces will pull apart.

    Dear royc,

Thanks for responding to my plea. That said, is there anyway to find a Motorola workshop manual for the StarTac? Thanks, again. StarTacnut

Sorry, but I don't know of any source for such a manual. They would have only been made available to authorized repair facilities. Also remember that this is a very old phone. Alltel and Verizon last sold these in 2002. The StarTACs were not E911 capable, which hastened their obsolescence in the USA. Most repair facilities have long ago discarded any technical information they might have had.

Thanks, royc. I have a brand new one and I want to transfer the guts from my existing, still activated example. I've had this done before but the tech damaged the case. I'm pretty handy and feel confident I can do this. I thought maybe a workshop manual would show a special tool to release the back rather than pry it apart, as pictured. Oh well, I guess I'm going for the StarTac record for hours of operation...
