I have been using Sprint for a couple of years now, and I didn't have any problems with them until I got the Samsung SCH6100 last year. That's when things went downhill. Now my reception sucks, I can't use my phone in any buildings or in certain areas in the city (especially downtown and in the suburbs) I get dropped calls all the time (if I move one centimeter while I'm on the phone my call drops. it will work in one spot in my house, but in another it is looking for service), I can't get in touch with any customer service rep (especially through their website. is it just me or do they not want to talk to you?), and the rep at the store is as moron. Anyone have any suggestions on who I can switch to? I've been looking at T-mobile and Nextel, but wanted to know everyone's experience with them and if anyone has any advice. I'm completely open to any other plans. I go back and forth between Boston and Las Vegas a lot, and would like a phone and service that would work in both places. I'm just completely fed up with my phone and with Sprint.

If you are a traveler, then Nextel, T-Mobile and Sprint should be at the bottom of your list. I think Verizon, Cingular (TDMA) and AT&T (TDMA) should address your needs better since they partner with more carriers than anyone else to bring you more reliable coverage nationwide. It is not by chance they are the top 3 US wireless carriers.

if your problems as you say, started with the phone; why not try another phone and keep your number. if you do choose that route stay away from samsung and LG phones- sanyos are the best as well as the hitachi out now. you should re-experience service as good and better as what you had (towers are going up all the time).........

in the meantime I can understand your frustration with the CS but the new CEO is changing all the things you are upset about. in the meantime to get a live rep quickly simply dial *2.....then 1 for English......then press 0 a couple times and it will put you in line for the next live rep. claire being avoided. the automated CS menu is being revamped by mid-end november. also the new rate plans are out that are superb. I can understand your frustrations as many complaints are valid but are being adressed.

if you still are set on leaving verizon is probably your next bet in those markets you mentioned.

i live in new jersey and experienced the exact same problem with that phone. as a customer with sprint for 3 1/2 years now i called sprint customer service, went to the store and one person was stupider than the next. the customer service is deplorable. i had so many problems and my phone was only 7 months old. i went to the store and they upgraded the software which was such bullshit. the problems continued. eventually after 3 months of problems, i wrote a letter to their corporate office in kansas city, missouri and stated i was tired of monetary credits and that either they give me a new phone or i'm through with them. i politely stated that they expect their monthly payment on time and i expect service. i explained to them the numerous problems i had with sprint customer service and the nonsense of the upgrade. understand i went through this for months. i have an older plan where my evening minutes start at 8pm and not 9pm and iwas reluctant to give that up. to make a long story short, after writing the letter and threatening legal action and also sending them a copy of my letter to the better business bureau, i got a call from their executive offices giving me a brand new LG5250 (a $200 value at the time) and 6 months free service. they also didn't charge me the activation fee (i warned them on that too). all i can say to you is be persistent, make a pest of yourself and write to corporate office and the better business bureau. it worked for me!!! best of luck to you.

thanks for all the response from eveyone! especially bobolito and IdiOTeQnoLogY. also, thanks for the input from the anonymous user from new jersey. too bad it took you to contact the better business bureau and sprint's corporate offices to get anything done. it's not that i don't like sprint, but in the past year i have noticed that their customer service has gone downhill. A LOT! getting someone who is knowledgable of any of their products is rare, and claire is just downright annoying. she is of no help whatsoever. whatever happened to a more personable approach to customer service? i think i may take some of your advice and try getting a new phone through sprint to see if it helps any of my problems. any advice on what phone has good reception and is in decent condition that won't cost and arm and a leg? i would hate to spend $150+ if i am going to have the same problems. anyone know about the Sprint PCS CDM9155SP? i can't find any reviews on it.

1 word: Sanyo. My 4900 gets better reception than any other Sprint phone I've seen. I hear the other Sanyos are very good as well. The consensus also seems to be that the Samsungs aren't so great on reception and the LGs are iffy. I don't know much about that Audiovox, although that model is also on Verizon (the 9155) and it is doing well for them.

I feel like I'm so indecisive! I've been hemming and hawing over the Sprint phones for the past week. I did take a look at the Sanyo 4900 per jmccrane's advice. It looks great, but I am still apprehensive on paying that much for a phone if I am still going to have the same problems. Does anyone know anything about the Kyocera QCP2255, Samsung SPH-n200 or the LG 1010? I've read that Samsung's and the LG's are awful phones reception wise, but I'm still wondering if those models are any good. Also, does anyone know about a promotion that Sprint is going to run for their current customers? In passing I heard about some promotion that is going to start in November. Just wondering what it was all about. Thanks!

i would not get that samsung or lg phone. they are both bad in reception. kyocera is a good phone except for that one model you mentioned the 2255 has had major lcd issues. the 2345 which is $130 should be fine as they totally redesigned the LCD on that model. if you can find a sanyo 4700 at any third party dealer like best buy or circuit city you should be able to pick it up for $100........otherwise the 4900 is your next best bet. the audiovox seems to be a good phone so far- no problems so far with it.

SHould have been around 2 weeks ago when Iwas complaining about my samsung sch3500. Same problems that you're having. Take jmmcrane's advice and go for the sanyo or try the hitachi (a bit
    pricy though).

"i would hate to spend $150+ if i am going to have the same problems."

Good point. I think Sprint knows by now that the Samsung phones aren't the best, yet they continue to sell them, and not too cheap may I add.

Did sprint customer service make you any type of an offer towards a purchase of a new phone? They should!

Many people wonder why Sprint carries Samsung's; considering Samsung is the worst phone in so far as reception is concerned. Did anyone stop to ever notice that Sprint is going to hang in there with any company that advertises for them. Do you see Sanyo doing a bunch of Sprint commercials; they dont have too...their phones speak for themselves!

Also, and I dont know if this is an "unspoken" policy, but no cell carrier guarantees service indoors.....(that just what I heard).

I have a feeling that the relationship between phone manufacturers and cellular carriers is a bit more complicated than that. It's hard to discern why some brands are available for certain carriers and others not, and why these availabilities change. However, I doubt the answer depends on the amount of advertising.

Doesn't Verizon and T-Mobile both sell Samsungs? If they are that bad then why don't you hear complaints about those? I find it hard to believe that Samsung only makes lemons for Sprint and not the others.

Just to try to give an example, with Sprint, I had the N300, the same phone carried by Verizon was the R225 or something close to that, anyway, although both phones are the same, each will work differently on the network they were designed to be used on.

Hope that makes some sense; dont wanna be beat up on because my facts are not 100%........just something I noticed.

True but if Samsung holds the same quality standards for all of their phones then there should not be much difference. Both Verizon and Sprint Samsungs should use the same Qualcomm chip.
