Hi all, Great site with loads of info. My first post; here goes . . . I am currently w/ Cingular and have been very satisfied. My wife is with Verizon and also has been very satisfied. However we now have a new business together with a huge volume of incoming calls. The need for free incoming calls (and cheap data plan) is driving our decision to both change over to Sprint. I had Sprint some 7 years ago in the area of south Clt/Rock Hill and the coverage absolutely stunk then. All the time roaming (when they charged for it), frequent dropped calls and frequently just no service at all. I've done some informal polling and seem to be hearing that Spring is much better now. I'd appreciate any input you Sprint users in and around Charlotte could give me concerning the quality of the coverage, especially anyone who has changed from Cingular or Verizon, for comparison. Also I am a pilot and travel mostly up and down the east coast, some to the midwest. How is Sprint in these areas? Thanks in advance.
I would bet that it's a completely different layout now than what you had 7 years ago. But do be careful and you may want to check with a rep on this, but when I plug the Charlotte zip into the Sprint website, the 'Free Incoming Plans' have no mention of free roaming and also gives the line "All of your incoming calls are FREE while on the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network." So I'm not sure by that description if you'll get free incoming calls while roaming on a roaming partner such as Alltel or Verizon which is usually who Sprint falls back onto for roaming. Depending on how much time you spend on roaming partners and what exactly is offered in the free incoming plans, it may or may not be a good option for you with the limited anytime minutes you get. But maybe a rep could clear that up just in case you do get those features and it just doesn't mention them on the website.
Thanks for that heads up. Yes, I did see that free incoming applies while on the Sprint/Nextel network; however, the plan brochure we picked up from the store definitely states that that plan includes no roaming charges, unlimited n/w at 9 & nationwide LD. Actually my wife will serve as the guinea pig and go first to test the waters as she can get back onto the same plan with Verizon if Sprint doesn't work out in the first 30 days. And only she needs free incoming. I am getting referred to the SERO program and pretty much all the goodies are included in that. So I'll wait a least a couple of weeks to see how it goes with her service before I give up my low rate with Cing, as my plan is no longer available. Anyway I hope it works out, I'm looking forward to getting a new Treo 700wx.
Please let us know how Sprint works out for you and what you decide on! I honestly don't think you will be disappointed in Sprint, especially with SERO....those plans are unbeatable!
I also agree with Andy. The Free incoming plan seems really helpful for a small business owner and SERO is good too. I don't think you'll be sorry to make the switch. Between the Free Incoming 300 for $50/mo and the SERO including data for about $30/mo you should be able to get what you need for less than what any other provider could set you up with. Good luck and I also hope you let us know how it works out.
I have unlimited incoming by teaming up Alltel's My Circle with Grand Central. It works great. The only downfall is the lack of caller ID, but I can deal with that considering how much cheaper Alltel is compared to a free incoming plan with Sprint. And the coverage is much better than Sprint. We use over 5,000 minutes a month and our bill is less than 80 bucks for both lines.
