To all who may have input on vision plans and the old Sprint Wireless Web: I have a Motorola Timeport with Sprint and have been using the wireless web with the data cable for many months to send and recvieve email. I love being able to do this as I only have a cell phone and don't use the internet much accept for sending and recieving emails at home. All of my browsing is done at work. Anyway, I would like to get a new cell phone, most likely a Sanyo 4900 which of course is a new vision phone. I have a great retention plan right now and have the old wireless web on the plan. If I get a new phone, am I still going to be able to use the old style wireless web for only $5 a month, or do I have to sign up for the new vision plans. On this same note, can I just add wireless web for a certain price per month like I do with the wireless web right now, or do I have to get a special "vision" plan. The speed of the new vision services is really not a big thing for me since I only do email, but my phone is getting there as far as age and I like the Sanyo's becuase of thier great reputation for solid strong signal. My office is in a communication hole and i can get calls in there, but they seem to fade after about a minute unless I walk out the door. Basically the question is this, if I get a vision phone, can I still use the old #2932 for the access to the web like I do now when I hook it up to my computer as a modem. Any new options that sprint may have would be appreciated. Thanks, AZcellphonejunkie
If you get a Vision phone and a data cable for it you can use it with our laptop by dialing #777 from what I understand. If you don't get a Vision plan you will be charged per kb (2 cents) . If you keep your old phone and get a non Vision plan you can add Wireless Web for $5 per month from what I have been told. Lots of specifics (probably too much) can be found by searching alt.cellular.sprintpcs on www.google.com . G.
Thanks for the input. I know I can use the #777 with a phone for vision access, but does the #2932 still work if I don't want to use the vision services...?
Thanks Idiotechnology, I have been wondering that point. I have been driving myself crazy looking through the postings on the other Forums! Now if I could only get SPCS to add Vision to a Retention plan
Vision can be added to retention plans for 10.00/month unlimited usage. However if your going to use the data kit and use it as a wireless modem...keep in mind that the VISION is your isp. It will work like a cable modem/dsl. If you use aol or some other provider, you will want to connect to them by using TCP/IP. If you allow the phone to dial out to connected, then your not using vision and will be charged for air time plus a 2g data rate.
OK, So you are telling me that I will be able to add Vision for $10 a month to a retention plan? I hadn't heard of that, I was told by the rep on the 15th of OCT that I would have to change to a Vision plan if I wanted the service. That would be great if I could just add it on to my existing plan! Can someone else confirm that this is an option for me. As for the issue of an ISP, I currently am using the Sprint #2932 dialup as my ISP, so vision would be fien by me. Anyone who has added Vision to a retention plan PLEASE TELL ME!!! That would be great, I am paying $5 a month right now for the old slow Wireless web, why not just pay $5 more and get a faster better service!!!
yes you can add vision to retention-but they make you pay $10. i was offered (retention dept) $75 for 1500 anytime/3000 nights&wkds after 8pm, pcs- pcs and $100 off a new phone. well they didn't tell me that a lot of the new phones are the vision type. so i called them back and then they offered me $85 fot 2000 anytime/3000 nights&wkds after r 8, pcs-pcs, unlimited vision. i'm thinking of buying the sanyo 6200 with camera, or the samsung a500. but i'm not sure how great the whole vision thing is. i was in the store and it wasn't really working on the phones so i couldn't really tell how close to the web it is. i'm still debating on just staying with free and clear
Azcellphonejunkie, Some ret plans are a little tricky to configure with Vision, but it can be done. If you have any issues, post back here with your email address and i'll get with you and see if we can't get you taken care of!
I don't know what your needs are but if you need 2000 anytime minutes, then yes thats a good prices for 85.00/mth. Believe it or not, the only ret part of that plan is the 3000 n/w min starting at 8pm. The rest is the current holiday promo. Which imho, is just as good as ret plans. I think the 100.00 credit towards a new phone is far. The other nice thing about that plan is if you wanted to you could add a 2nd line to SHARE those minutes you could at no addition charge other then maybe an activation fee.
Don't know much about the retention plans but after years with ATTWS I have switched to Sprint and couldn't be happier. Data cable and the Sprint Connection Manager software along with a $100/month for 2500 minutes. I get unlimit Vision...which when I use data cable to connect with Sprint connection manager software offers me faster than dial up access! Can't tell you how sweet it is!
I have some questions for you regarding the Vision: -on the new vision phones, does it connect fast? -is it like the web on home computers?(like can you access Mapquest while driving). what other applications can you use the vision for? also, you had mentioned you use it as your home cable connection? please explain this portion to me Thanks for all your input
sorry if i confused you with cable modem/dsl comparision...its work like them in the sinces its your service provider for internet content (doesn't dial out to connect and can be always connected) If you want to access other service like aol, instead of dialing out, you would access it through a tcp/ip connection if you where using the phone as a wireless modem and had it connected to a pc. Vision is capable of being 2x as fast as a 56k modem. And right now you can access most sites on the internet..so yes, you should be able to connect to mapquest. I'm not sure on what other applications are avail for vision, but the service is still pretty new so im sure there will be alot more to come in the near future.
