This has nothing to do with the CDMA voice and data networks that Sprint customers currently use. This is something else. No need to spread confusion.

Yeah when I first saw this press release I was a little confused myself until I read it and figured out what it was.

Some spectrum that Sprint has obtained is currently being used by TV stations to transmit their signals in the field back to the station. Before Sprint can us this spectrum, there are required to move the broadcasters off of it and pay for that transition.

This is the 10 mhz (5 + 5) of spectrum Sprint (actually Nextel) got as part of the agreement to re-band (and also give up a portion of) the 800 MHz ESMR spectrum (the traditional Nexel frequencies). The Spectrum is immediately adjacent to the PCS bands, and is populalry referred to as the "G" PCS band, even though it is not technically art of the PCS definciton as far as I know. What Sprint will do with this 10 mhz it is not yet known. As it will be exclusively theirs nationwide, I would think any devices that will access it will be exclusive to Sprint.

Does Qchat require unique to Sprint handsets? If so, than having those unique to Sprint handsets support this spectrum might kill two birds with one stone.

Hopefully not cuz if they do change to GSM service then I'm gonna have to take my interest to Verizon cuz I hate GSM service and phones that use SIM cards! :)

nahhh why would they change.....they have everything set for them in CDMA until they move on to either Wimax or LTE..............this spectrum is for WiMax......its part of the return that they get for vacating the pieces of spectrum that were invading on public safety dispatch in their iDEN system
