Yeah but Sprint is already losing customers so does anyone really think this move is going to make that worse? I don't think this is going to make much difference but hey I could be wrong. But anyway it sucks for those or you who need more than 5GB per month. Most customers are on regular or power vision phones and plans and apparently won't be affected by this.

I don't think that this move will cost Sprint many existing customers, but it may cost them future customers.

How many people have a negative perception of Sprint, yet may have decided "Well, $60 bucks for unlimited beats $60 for 5GB on VZW/ATT so I will go with Sprint for mobile broadband in spite of all the bad things I Have heard about them."

Personally, if I wanted broadband, I'd probably go with VZW over Sprint now.

Has anything official been released about this yet or is it just speculation based on what a rep said on another forum?

I think other reps have confirmed it. I just wonder when it will come to pass. If you try to sign up for a data card plan on sprint.com it still shows up as an unlimited plan.

I would think even if there is a 5gb cap for the average user this is more than plenty. If not things have to be adjusted so it can work for them.

I means I will download about 100 gigs worth of linux distros so I can get the boot without paying the E.T.F. then I can go back to trusty unlimited dialup !!!

this just makes it easier for the other companies to stop people from switching from them to sprint...One thing about sprint is that eventually you just leave them alone, they will nail their own coffin shut...thanks sprint

"Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred and to deny, terminate, modify, or suspend service if usage exceeds 5GB per month in total or 300MB/month while off-network roaming. Check your subscriber agreement rights on Sprint.com"

So it's still unlimited... but it's just limited to 5GB if you are ROAMING.

Correct me if I am wrong but the way I read this is:

*5gb per month total (i assume this is on the sprint network)
    *300mb per month while roaming

I believe it is meant to be split up into two parts.

Sprint's EvDO data service no longer unlimited

Looks like Sprint is going to amend their TOS to have a 5GB soft cap. I guess you cant provide unlimited if you lose 1,000,000 subs a qtr.

Sprint is just trying to get their stock prices up. In order to do that they have to find ways to become more profitable by cutting costs. It could very well be a smart move if the goal is getting rid of customers who are costing them too much money by using the system too much.

I think this is a bad move honestly for their state right now. I mean true there are people who use and abuse the system and Sprint may be better not having them. But, what good does it do to get rid of these people in turn they will not refer anyone to Sprint they are more prone to get on the internet and create chaos and there for continue the bad press and thus make more people leave and noone join. This my opinion. I think they need to leave these types of things alone for right now and try to keep current customers happy.

the way i see it.....in such a data-centric world, when LTE and WiMax are the norms, they will have to get rid of the caps because people will be dropping wires for 0s and 1s flying past their ears to the nearest towers........caps will be impossible to enforce.....

I believe Sprint knows what they're doing now that Hesse is in charge and cracking down on these things is probably the right direction to go for the company. I wouldn't be surprised to see SERO given the boot next.

Back to the topic I really think most people are used to a 5gb limit once a few months blow bye this wont be a concern att and verizon have conditioned people to the notion.

5GB IS OFFICIAL! - Sprint confirms.

Well, it is officially OFFICIAL. Sprint, via their online message boards (BuzzAboutWireless), has confirmed that data will be capped at 5GB. You can see more detail below, and get to the site/source/thread from the "SOURCE" link. Updates will be posted when available on BAW.

I'd hate to see it go... but such a great deal can't stick around forever. I'm surprised it has gone on this long... I first heard about it back in early 2006...

It seems on BuzzAboutWireless Sprint Reps are getting into the ordeal. I guess this made some big PR headaches...

and then this little note to confirm what has been said in this thread:

Good to see they are answering some customer's questions on this big mess. Clearing a few things up for us!

In Sprint's defense, I don't think they handled this too poorly, with the exception of failing to realize that their employees would leak the info. They should have had an official announcement ready the same day they informed employees. The week-long delay allowed for rumors and speculation to grow rampant from the truth.

MobileCrunch's article on the 5GB data cap got a response from Sprint.

The response can be found here: MobileCrunch Sprint responds to 5GB Bandwidth cap woes

That seems to be fair enough - I mean IF they HAVE TO put this into affect (which it seems they are adiment of doing).
