Muhhaahaha, with all these buyouts coming from Sprint, you'd think they might finally put the crosshairs on iPCS.
Nice. Maybe IPCS will be next? Not that I care about IPCS but I'm tired of hearing everyone complain about them all the time. There's more people on the forums from IPCS land than there is from corporate land. It's really odd.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (MobilePhone SCP-8400/US/1.0) NetFront/3.3 MMP/2.0) yea. when in ipcs land i will force roam. but northern pcs buyout is great. means more corporate evdo!
Yea you can say that again, on this side of the state they have a tower about every 40-50 miles, what is the point.......
Alien isnt joking about that. In some areas the have one tower in a single county or based on population to maintain their PCS license in areas they are not ready to build out. In some of the more popular areas where i am at I have seen Ipcs use repeaters. Im not talking about in the middle of no where, they use them on a main state highway. I wish I would have took a pic, I was saying to myself what in the F*** is that!
I am traveling very frequently and I have been through iPCS territory far too many times. They need to go. It would be great if Sprint could take that over and increase coverage in iPCS land too.
I compeletely agree with everyone: iPCS needs to GO! I live in the thumb of Michigan and it basically includes three counties and one of them is in the Sprint corporate territory and the other two are in the iPCS territory. I happen to live in the iPCS section but they have no towers built out here I think because Thumb Cellular is the main CDMA carrier. But in Sanilac County, Sprint is already starting to put CDMA panels on their Nextel towers, which is awesome, and I would love for them to do that here but it sucks that they can't because of STUPID iPCS!!!!! I'm also sick and tired of hearing some people from other towns saying that they have to pay for roaming with their "Sprint" phones when they leave their network. Seriously, who charges for roaming anymore?
If someone is still being charged for roaming they need to change their plan to a more modern one. The past 2 or so years, most if not all Sprint plans include free roaming.
I don't know much about Thumb Cellular but I know they are up there. What are they like? Is there a reason that Sprint couldn't just buy them too? Sprint would add a few customers and have unbeatable coverage. Then Sprint could fill any holes that are left and nobody would have better coverage in that area. Is Thumb Cellular 800MHz? That would be a reason that Sprint won't buy them. Otherwise I think Sprint should get iPCS out of the way and buy Thumb Cellular too.

We switched to Sprint yesterday and the guy told me that the legal issues here with ipcs were about done and he thought Sprint would have them bought out by the end of the year. Hopefully he is right. He said Sprint has been trying things out in our area that are officialy Sprint things not ipcs, and they are happy with what has happened (whatever that means).
My rule of thumb is believe 50% of what the sales rep is telling you. They have sales quota's to reach each month and "many" don't worry whether you get service in your area or not. In other words they are trying to make a living, and selling phones no matter what it takes is how its done. In the case you describe "the guy" more than likely has no idea when & if iPCS will be purchased.
