    Sprint Takes Wi-Fi Unlimited

Sprint is offering an unlimited Wi-Fi access plan that will cost customers $49.95 a month. The unlimited plan is an alternative to the carrier's Pay-As-You-Go offering.

The goal of the two plans is to meet the needs of Sprint's Wi-Fi customers. The unlimited monthly plan gives customers access to Sprint Wi-Fi Access service, which is currently available at more than 2,200 hot spots in the United States and Canada. The Pay-As-You-Go option provides a one-day connection for $6.95.

"Wi-Fi is progressing from an amenity to an expectation and a necessity for the road warrior intent on preserving productivity while mobile," says Wes Dittmer, Sprint's general manager of WLAN services.

T-Mobile's unlimited Hotspots are 39.99 in 4,500 locations, only 19.99 (with no contract) if you are a T-Mobile voice customer.

I think right now T-Mobile has the best Wi- Fi service avaible nationwide. There rates are pretty good and it seems they have more hot spots then anybody else.

A lot of places are offering free WiFi too now, the Holiday Inn Express I stayed at last month in Eureka had free WiFi, the HI Express we're staying at in Chico tommorrow night also has free WiFi, or ethernet, whichever you prefer, even a lot of train stations, airports, malls and other venues are offering it free. The one in McKinleyville does, so does the HI express here in Ukiah, as well as the one in Redding. They more than make up the cost because people (myself included) look for hotels that have complimentary broadband included, and people choose (again, me included) places to stay with it over those that don't. I know many still don't (especially in little towns we stay in sometimes, like Weaverville and Yreka), but a lot do now. Heck, why pay for it when it's included for free? :)

Isn't it also $29.99/month if you sign a 1 year contract? Their one day fee of $9.99 is a bit steep. Every time I selected the one day, I was starbucks for at least 3 hours surfing until my eyes hurt.

Yes, it's 39.99 month to month or 29.99 with a one year contract if you are not a TM voice customer. 19.99 month to month if you are a TM voice customer.

Verizon is also offering unlimited wifi for 34-39??? I'll have to check the prices...I don't make anything for selling it so it's not even on the radar.

I think the best example of the proifilration of wifi hot spots is the example of the underground system in london, they offer hotspots on some of the most frequented lines, so you can access it during your commute, I can't remember if there was a charge but I'm inclined to think not...

Update...Verizon Wireless has decided to stop selling the wifi option, with their push to launch BroadbandAccess nationwide, I guess they figured there was no reason to muddy things up with a wifi initiative.

Ya... I don't think we once sold wi-fi in our retail store... noone really seems interested in it too much. BroadbandAccess will be much more convenient anyways. :)
