You spoke to soon! I now have three 2300's on a family account! (Graphite, Silver, and Champagne). The phones seems really nice in most every respect, compared to the trusty 4900. The compact size is really nice, the interface is good, sound quality seems good to me. Vision is faster. I forced roaming and got VZW digital. I am pleased so far. Ok, so as to not disappoint you The only possible weakness I have found so far APPEARS to be signal strength, but I really do not know yet. I know you can't compare bars since Sprint changed the algorithem a couple of years ago. The dBs on the 2300 are usually a few dB weaker then the 4900, but they may not be comporable, either. The 4900 only gave "RxLev". The 2300 gives both "RSSI" and "Ec/Io". How they relate is not clear to me. But even with a -100 range dB, the phone works at home, which of course what's important. I'll find out more about RF as I drive around.
Hey congrats! Hope they work out good for you. The 4900 was getting way outdated so it was time for a change. The only think I don't care for on the 2300 and most newer Sanyos is the keypad.
So far so good on RF performance/holding calls. I am pleased with overall performance and feel of the phone. And SMS sure beats shortmail! P.S. - The only downside to having the digital roam capability is now I can see the relative strength of the 800 MHz signal on the service screen!
Remember Tom that 800 Mhz signal will typically show stronger than 1900 Mhz even in weaker areas. I've also seen Sprint phones operate better on a low signal than Verizon phones do. So you can't really go by the number of bars too much. I would say 2 bars on an 800 Mhz network is about equivalent to one bar on a 1900 Mhz network.
