Hello to everyone, I'm currently a Sprint PCS user, and I am having trouble with their service in my area. The phone will either have no signal, or would be in Digital Roam until I am out of my housing trac. I live in Sacramento, in the Rosemont/Kiefer area. Any help would be gratly appreciated ! Thanks,
What kind of phone are you using? Some phones perform better than others. For Sprint alot of people say that Sanyo's phones hold better digital signal than any other Sprint phone.
It looks like he is using the v8160 which is a single band phone. I would personally put in a trouble ticket and also try out a new phone. For a inexpensive new phone try the kyocera 2255 but since you have a flip phone you are probally used to them. So I would say the sanyo 5150. If you can wait a few months. Jack
I have the V8162 it is single band. I love the phone but I hate the recepetion arounf my house. I was hoping that the v60 will be coming out but I haven't heard anything. I was looking at the Nokia 8270, does anyone know this phone is coming out for sprint. I have a friend who can get me the Kyocera phone, so I'll try thhat out. Hopefully it helps. Thanks, Anthony
It's possible that a different brand of phone will help but it might not. Somtimes residential areas can be tough to cover by PCS carriers. Basically they can only cover areas where they can get permission to build a transmitter. If they can't get permission then coverage will be poor. That's why Sprint has a 14 day trial period. If you change to another phone I would not recommend Motorola but Kyocera and Sanyo seem to be the best. There won't be any Nokias offered by Sprint for a while as they have been known to have problems on CDMA networks. Also you might want to update your PRL as this can sometimes help but not always.
Anthony, Welcome to the club. First thing is to make sure your 2255 has the latest software version (JS1.0.13) and PRL (10015). I also have a 2255 user group on yahoo at: Click here for the 2255 user group A good thing about this phone is that it's tri-mode meaning you can roam on two different digital frequencies.
changing phones usually will not make a difference (unless you are switching from singal band to dual band or something...). The phones all use the same technology. There may be a difference in software if you have had a phone for a long time you may want to go to a sprint store and have them update the software. With sprint you are not able to update the software over the phone itself (like verizon's *228). Also, i didn't check when you posted this but sprint is going through the gsm upgrade now which whill cause some problems with their service for a few weeks. They decided to upgrade the nation all at once instead of area by area as some of the other providers are doing. hope this helped.
You can update the Sprint PRL over the phone just like Verizon but you have to ask CC to flag your phone by calling *2. You cannot update software (firmware) over the phone with any provider. This requires a cable and has to be done at a store.
Larry, Can you get a flash kit for the phones to update your PRL off a Laptop/PC I called there Mobile Office support not to much help any advice?
PRL list can be updated by first calling CC at *2 and tell the rep you have an old PRL and to flag your handset to do an update. You might get a dummy on the other end who doesn't know what a PRL is. If you do ask for their supervisor. After the rep tells you the flag has been set, hang up, wait a few minutes just in case, then call back to *2. YOu'll get a recording that says something like "at sprint pcs we're continually improving our service, we have detected that an upgrade to your service is required, please hold...........................". After the upgrade claims its been completed, hit the end key and you should notice your phone cycle out and back into service. Check your PRL and it should read 10015. If it doesn't, go to where there's 5 bars of signal strength, stand still and try it again. You might have to call CC again to reset the flag. << Larry, Can you get a flash kit for the phones to update your PRL off a Laptop/PC I called there Mobile Office support not to much help any advice? >>
On some of the older Sprint phones like the Sanyo 4000 this OTA PRL update process often has to be done twice.
