Thx for the info Andy :)

On another note... I think I hit my first...err...roadblock (?) with Sprint... I went to the Sprint site and noticed I had a bill for $144.00!

I called Customer Service and asked politely...well, "WTF?". Not exactly that but politely asked why I'm being billed $144 in 4 days. It turns out I was billed activation on both handsets whereas I wasn't supposed to and was credited the amount. They were very nice but I had a hard time understanding the lady--I'm guessing she was in India.

Here's a tip. If you call in the morning or before say 5PM you are much less likely to get the foreign customer service.

So Sprint outsourced their Customer Service?

LOL!!! That's a good one. But it seems to be true. Anytime I have called at night I get a foreign sounding person.

[So Sprint outsourced their Customer Service?]

LOL!!! That's a good one. But it seems to be true. Anytime I have called at night I get a foreign sounding person who is very difficult to understand. I wonder if it was the same group that was going to take over port security.

Because the US customer service closes at 9PM EST I think. After that it's sent to the foreigners.

Well guys....bad news... I gave it a good shot but I cancelled Sprint over the weekend.

The reason I cancelled service is not only because of the hefty first bill (and so soon after I activated), but because after I studied what I was getting for what I was paying, it didn't seem to fit my needs as much. Typical buyer's remorse I guess but I also had to call Customer Service a few times and was not flattered at having to consistantly deal w/ someone in India or Pakistan. This was something I really liked about T-Mobile--the fact that their call centers were in the US, but after the last call I had w/ them (I had a *REALLY* broken-English rep), I decided to go back to T-Mobile.

Last night, I called about the bill I received, and just want to know what the "real/prorated" bill was, and I was told by the Customer Service Rep that I was responsible for the entire bill. I explained (3-times, in fact) that I only had service for a week, have returned the handsets, and was told I would only be responsible for the days I had the service--she said, "Umm...you need to pay your bill...sir...". I said, "That's what I'm trying to do, but I don't owe $148.00--I was told by the retentions rep that it was going to be around $12..." She said, "You need to pay your bill..." After I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was hung up on.

I called retentions and spoke to someone (in Canada) who knew everything that was going on, and said I'm not responsible for anything except what I used (airtime is 'supposedly' waived..exceptions being ringtones, text, etc.).

All in all, I thought the service was pretty good and worked well for me; however, considering I only had service in one less place w/ T-Mobile and I'm out of contract, I decided to stay w/ them. The only thing I can objectively say was the only (and most) frustrating thing was the India call center reps...I had a hell of a time trying to understand two of them, and they always repeated themselves 2-3times.

Thanks again you guys (especially Larry!) for the helpful posts over the past week or so.

I had the exact same experience. My wife and I signed up with Sprint through Costco just to make sure we didn't want to go back with Sprint. We found that the coverage was about equal so we decided to stay with T-Mobile. We cancelled Sprint for good after 5 days. We just got our first bill and it was for $122!!!! I just about pooped my pants! I called customer service(Business accounts) and the guy didn't know his butt from his head. He said I was responsible for the whole bill.

They charged me for activation which they weren't supposed to. They charged me for the first months vision and sms which they weren't supposed to. Then they expect me to pay for the next months service on top of it all. I also asked for a supervisor and he put me on hold. I was on hold for 40 minutes and I finally hung up. I called back later that night and spoke to someone foreign and he fixed my bill so my bill came out to about $12. So it isn't just the foreign people, because in my experience they knew better than their regular customer service guy.

Anyway I am very happy with T-Mobile service and especially their customer service. I told them about a fair signal I get at my work and they sent technicians into the area. They called back a few days later and said they were going to put up a new tower in the area in the next 110 days!! I get a useable signal there but they are going to make it stronger.

The moral of the story is that the grass can be greener on the other side. I will never go back to Sprint again.

Don't fall for that new tower story. I've heard those promises and stories many times before with just about every carrier and it usually never happens. But you never know I guess.

This was probably my biggest turnoff... What I was "told" was a lot different than what I received and saw. I'm not here to 'bash' Sprint but just to chime in with the topic I originally started.

Much like your experience, I had to get ahold of someone who knew what she was talking about and said to simply wait for the next bill. If something bad comes of it, then I'll go to the BBB. Considering I have all the documentation from when I signed up, to when I cancelled, to when I returned the phones, I'm in good shape.

$144 after just 4 days of service was just obscene to me...regardless of whether it was my next bill up front or not.

I wasn't trying to bash Sprint, just telling my experience. I had Sprint for 3 years and was actually happy with them until my wife wanted to change. I feel that T-Mobile is about the same coverage, but cheaper and with better customer service.

I still have a very useable signal at work regardless if they put up a new tower or not, my decision to stay with them was not based on what they told us. I have a wait and see approach on whether they will actually put that tower up or not, I am sceptible about it.

I figure they might because they can gain a lot of business by making the signal stronger here. I work at a middle school that has 1500 kids and there is a high school across the street with probably double that amount. So T-Mobile could only gain by strengthening reception in this area.

Yeah customer service is certainly not the greatest but for me it's a non issue. I don't deal with them except on rare occassions and I've pretty much have had good experiences with them overall. I still think the Sprint sero plans are unbeatable for what you get from them.

No kidding. If sprint works well in your area and you can get a sero plan, i'd tell anyone to jump on it.

I'm getting about 4 or 5 PM's a day from people wanting to get on the SERO plans. It's getting hard to keep answering them.

Yeah that's why I was suprised when someone here said they went back to T-Mobile becuase it was cheaper. I guess 'cheaper' is all dependent on the services and options you happen to need.

True. For 'normal' people that don't know you, Larry, and can get a SERO referral, T-Mobile would probably be the cheapest option though. Nobody comes close to offering you as many minutes and features for such low prices and offer a great network in most areas they cover.

Yeah, I was the one that said that, because I have a family share plan with my wife and the SERO plans aren't family share. T-Mobile was the cheapest out of all of them for what we got. She also got us a 14.3% government employee discount on top of it with no activation fees and 2 free phones. No one could top that.

Was that 14.3% w/ Sprint or T-Mobile? If it's with T, who on earth do you call there?

I checked and re-checked w/ T-Mobile and they didn't have any discounts for us school employees... Sprint, however, offers 23% off the monthly rate.

The SERO plans are awesome, but are a balance between what I already have... $40 for 1000 (T-Mo) or $50 for 1250...although $30 for 500 is compelling.

I get it with T-Mobile. My wife gets the discount because she works for the state of California as a tax auditor. I am a teacher too, but they didn't offer me a discount. I know Sprint offers 15% for public school teachers in southern CA. Verizon offered our district 17% off.

We just called up the T-Mob business department and told them who we work for and they applied the 14.3% discount and took care of us over the phone. We also got discounts on phones.

You might want to call business accounts department to see if they could hook you up.

How did you get 23% off Sprint? When I called and told them I was a public school teacher they only offered me 15%!

They told me the same thing, but they give district employees (classifieds) 23%, our "district-only" (aka. corporate) lines are 25%, and faculty are 15%. << Personally I think it blows for teachers because they work 4x harder than most of the classifieds anyway (and I'm one of them!)

Speaking of corporate discounts did you know that Costco employees get 22% off on Sprint accounts? It's a great deal as my GF works for Costco.
