Well, basically Sprint had to bite the bullet and make "friends" on which networks they can use to compete.

I wonder how much of that expanded area is analog? Interesting they don't show which areas of the newly expanded coverage are digital / analog. The fine print says that these new plans exclude single mode phones (duh).

All in all the new "Free and Clear Across America" is basically the same as AC on Verizon. Except they look like they have a little better coverage. Claiming something like 96% of the population in the states. Hard to believe, but hey...

    We'll see I guess!!!

With the coverage that they are claiming on that map they would EASILY cover 96% of the people in the U.S. Basically anywere there is a sprint or anlog signal to be found they are claiminhg coverage. This flies in the face of VZW/ATT/Cingulars biggest coverage national plans. The question is, will they keep that coverage.

It looks decent, but expensive. $55 for 500min is more than I am willing to pay. Yes, I know that it includes a lot of coverage, but I don't need that coverage and everyone has Boston covered 100%.

It will be interesting to see if Sprint eliminated the force analog mode from their phones.

Actually in some markets such as right here in Los Angeles the plans are $5/month less across the board. That means that the 500 min plan is $50/month for me. [IMG]

Sprint has not eliminated the force analog mode function on any of their phones.

There's gonna be a lot of people eyeing the F&C America $110 plans 'cause it includes 2000 shared anytime minutes, unlimited pcs-pcs, unlimited n/w, and unlimited vision -- ALL FOR 2 LINES of SERVICE!!!

I have a friend/colleague whom he and his wife cancelled their home phone service and got the F&C $100 plan about a month ago. They use broadband for home internet access and the company we work for offers VPN access -- so accessing the corp network is no problem. More and more companies are offering vpn access and thus eliminating the requirement for people to use a direct dialup line.

That plan is only $105 here in Los Angeles! An even better deal!

That's because Sprint PCS is being nice to you guys to offset the damn high gas prices -- you'll spent $5 more in gas than I will just to drive to the local Sprint PCS store! [IMG]

FYI, Sprint PCS here in Chicago told a friend of mine that they were waiving the $35 activation fee today.

Is there a gotcha like with some companies that at least 50% of your useage must be on network, or they have the right to cancel or change your service? I know US Cellular and Edge(AT&T)Wireless does that with their regional and national plans, though I don't think Verizon and AT&T do.

That's written, but as a guideline. In other words, if you roam over 50% for a FEW months (not just 1), they'll probably give you a phone call about it because that would be suspect. Your core usage on average should be in a carrier-covered area.

Good one. [IMG] They really do stick it to us for gas here. I had to pay $2.29/gallon yesterday because my local station had run out of the 87 and 89 grades so I had to buy the premium. [IMG]

I'm sure that AT&T has something in their fine print about that as well. I remember reading it one time.

Maybe they do, but Verizon doesn't on their local and regional plans(at least in California)nor do they on the Single Rate National plans.

Larry-I know this is totally off subject, but you've always been very knowledgable in re to Sprint's products and services...I need to know when the Hell the Samsung I500 is coming out...I'm getting extremely irritated at going to the stores to have the retail people look at me like a bunch of jacka**es when I ask them about, because they have no clue about what it is...I've confirmed with Carrie King(Public Relations for Samsung) that the phone was set to release in April sometime, so you'd think that there would be some info given to the employees re the new phone given that it is mid-April already...But, alas...That would make too much sense...Any info you have would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

You must live in Orange County, then... premium here is still $2.499/gal.

OTOH, you can't throw a rock on Ventura Blvd. without hitting a store that sells Sprint service.

    NORTHFORM,
Well there are a few Sprint phones that ill only run on 1900CDMA SPRINTS NETWORK and 800CDMA DIGITAL ROAMING. these phones are listed as:
Nokia 2285/2275 PLans of this phone will be coming out this quarter sometime. Its listed on www.phonescopp.com if you want to see the list of new phones coming to SPrint this year and there is lots of them too.

Another thing, Sprint seems to me that they are getting away from the Dual-mode phones. (1900CDMA SPRINT NETWORK, 800AMPS ANALOG)

    Only remaing phones left are:
    LG LX5350
    SAMSUNG I300
    SANYO 4900, 6400

I hope they dont disconiture my Sanyo 4900 soon too. It would be nice in place of Tri-mode go something like this:

1900CDMA SPRINT, 800CDMA DIGITAL ROAMING, GSM 800-900 1800-1900. Thats what I like to see. You know sometime everyone might take a trip to Europe and come to a surprise that Germany only has GSM networks. But I did hear that there is QUALCOMM chip in the works just to do just that. No word on when or what but you never know, look how small the phones are getting now, smaller than a calculator.

    Ditto TwinPistons:

I've been reading these posts for several months trying to figure out who and/or when someone will come out with a viable replacement for a palm/phone. The whole world isn't into polyphonics, text messaging and photo sharing...some customers want a phone that's functional for business and personal purposes.
Verizon has teased us for months about the Kyocera...even today, I talked to two stores in my area and got two answers about release dates on the Kyocera 7135 while the phone is clearly available in other markets. The only viable competitor is the I500 and now we're getting the same tease from Sprint. I have active Sprint and Verizon accounts with maximum minutes...I'm a good customer. One will be the clear loser of my business and many others - the kind of customers you don't want to lose. Wake up the product management and marketing folks!

Truth is I really prefer Sprint...they just seem to be focusing on toys instead of phones. I plan to buy the Kyocera 7135 on April 28th (best rumor I have). At that time, I'll cancel my $120/mo Sprint account and increase my Verizon minutes and their revenue steam.

I don't even know why Sprint insisted on roaming on analog instead of CDMA 800. It is cheaper to roam on 800Mhz CDMA than AMPS for what I understand. I think it was just another way to mislead customers to think that only PCS means clear calls while 800Mhz means static noise and no extra features. Took'em a while to realize that mistake.

Sprint does roam on CDMA 800. Why would you say they don't?

Well Sprint still does roam on Analog, In Central Wisconsin I now lots a places where it happens its kind of sad really like you said they you too, I think they still too, what seems to be the problem of switching all the analong raoming to digital roaming. I dont think it would take that long to get everyone who had tri-mode phone to be running on 800CDMA, And use 800AMPS for only 911 calls. Thats what be the ticket right there. But who am I to tell Sprint about there analog partners in Central WIsconsin, but it apperas to me its alot of places in WIsconsin.

Here in the West (CA, AZ, NV) I have no trouble roaming 800 CDMA. I would say it's about 75% CDMA and 25% analog. I'm satisfied with that. I know the Chicago area customers can also roam CDMA. The newer PRL's seem to add some CDMA roaming (according to forum posts) so it might be in our best interest to get the latest update.

    tbrusky,

If you are using a Sanyo 4900 you would not be able to roam CDMA 800 no matter where you go. It's only a dual band/dual mode.

    Larry,
I was hoping you werent going to say that but I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Heres a questions for you. I have the lastest list of Tri-mode phones but Im not a realy fan of Samsung, everyone I see post on these forms say the siginals are bad, cant hear the person well just goes on and on. I like the candybar styles but I dont see one phone that Samsung makes that is a candybar style, the only one I see is a candybar style is the Nokia Im not a fan of Nokia had a nokia once was the worst Nokia will never go back to it again. ANd I wont give up color for a gray scale NO THANK YOU! All I see is all flip phones and they are all Tri-modes, any suggestions of whats the best and what to not get. My friend had a flipphone I tryed his I noticed the ring tones are very low cant hardly hear it, I dont know unless you tell me other wise I guess Im going to have to pray for a candybar style phone. I wanted for sometime now switch to a Tri-mode phone, but a issue with NO candybar styles phone Sprint has, but some are coming but they have not been released yet. Whats a guy to do. Any help would be nice, from anyone who has gone through this once or twice. And Im not paying no $499 for a phone if I want a camera Ill buy one. Or ever 399-299 for a phone either are they crazy its just a phone with tri-mode It better well make me dinner too for those prices. Hope to hear from someone soon.

Have you considered the Kyocera 2345? It's a candy bar tri-mode and is very affordable. There should also be some new ones coming out in the next two months or so so you might want to wait and see what the coming days will bring.

Kyocera? Not a fan of those either had a bad one or something my first phone from sprint the Kyocera 2255. Thye got hot a very hot and then after 10-15 minutes they just turned off. Took it back to Sprint and I remember this very well I told them I am not going to using a phone I cant even talk on for more than 10 minutes at a time, so they took the phone back in the room did some kind of test and came back and said, pick out a phone you want and you just pay the difference so I picked up the Sanyo 4900 and had the Sanyo 4900 ever since. Kyocera junk. But like you said "wait a few months see whats comes out. I see in your profile for phone you had a Kyocera 2255 and now have a Samsung A500, how is that A500 doing for you good siginal? Or not so good? Overall?

I never had any problems with my Kyocera 2255 getting hot. It was a great phone for me and the only reason I changed was to get a color screen & Vision. The A500 holds signal just as well as any phone I've used. I am very satisfied with it and will probably keep it for a long time. The color screen is just awesome.
