I was just forced to change from Cingular/ATT to Sprint, as my company just signed a big agreement with them. I live in the Dallas area, and almost every building I enter causes my signal to drop to 1 bar or less, and I am unable to use the phone for out/incoming calls. I have seen a few posts explaining that this is normal - not sure if it is CDMA in general, or possibly a combination of that and my BB 8830. Can someone shed some light on this, and if this is in fact expected, what good is a technology which does not allow the use of a phone in any building. Even something as necessary as getting a call from the wife, while at the grocery store is not possible.
It maynot be either, Sprint is PCS or 1900MHz. In general 850MHz is better for building penetration, but there are a lot of other factors like proximity of towers etc that come into play. As far I know the BB 8830 has very good reception so in your case it maybe just the fact that Sprint uses 1900, specially if it is happening in more than one building. PS: Of the major players on the CDMA side, Verizon uses both 850 & 1900 & on the GSM side at&t Cingular.
I think Dallas is in one of the areas where AT&T has both 850 Mhz licences (from the old AT&T, and from Cingular). Even though Sprint could roam on Verizon, they are 1900 Mhz-only there, too.
