I joined this forum in order to post this question. I was just passing some time yesterday and I Googled my parents names. Included in the results was a Conditional Use permit application before the planning commision for the city Of malibu for a Wireless Telecommunications Facility. Apparently it was approved. Some changes were make on a power pole which is either on or very near my parents property. this use permit was issued in 2001! My parents were approached and were offered up to 700/month for this "cell tower". They never recieved a dime, and never signed a contract. How can I tell if the power pole has a cell on it? And do they owe my parents lots of bucks? RR
can you post a picture so soem can take alook at what is attched on the pole and then I am sure some one will be able to tell you.
If Sprint decided to use a power pole to place their antenna then they would be paying the power company a monthly lease rate. I believe I remember the case you are referring to in Malibu. If you give me an address or cross streets there I'll look it up.
I just find it odd that they were offered money if the power company was going to be paid. The first offer was 300/month and my mom kept saying no and maybe she got too gready, the final offer which she refused was 700/month. She was kind of concerned about "radiation". Her address is 3821 Carbon Canyon road RR
Sprint does not have an antenna there. Their nearest one is at 22002 Carbon Mesa which is to the North West of there. They probably changed their minds about needing a site in that location or they dropped it from their budget. By the way there's much more radiation that comes from the phone itself then there is from the cell site antennas. $700/month would have been a great deal for this type of site. I would have snatched it right up. I'm also wondering why they were offered money. Typically Malibu doesn't allow cell sites on private residential property.
I suppose that is why they went to the planning commission and got approval for a "residential wireless telecommunications facility" within a RR-2 zone. I suppose another reason my parents didn't go for it was they really didn't need the money. Someone else went for the 700 or less. RR
Well in some cases they do allow it. But it's not very typical. In any event they changed their plans and went for something else. It happens all the time in the business.
Just out of curiosity why does this matter now? Are you hoping Sprint will re-consider their offer and once again want to use this location for a future cell antenna? Or do you think they snuck up an antenna and aren't paying?
If there was an antenna there you would see it. You can't miss them. Check out this picture as an example of what one looks like: http://gallery.wirelessadvisor.com/showimage.php?i=1707&c=6
Sorry in the delay but I did not see any Sprint equipment at that address. There is a Sprint fiber run in the area but you would not see any money off the pole lease, even if it's on your property since the pole is owned by Southern California Edison.
