No calls, texts, vision, etc! Even my DSL internet connection is very slow right now because of all the people jamming landlines right now!
Yes there was a major fiber optic cable cut out in the CA desert. This is one of two cables that Sprint uses. So about half of the Sprint customers in the US are without service right now.
This must have happened recently? I talked to my mom at noon. But I just tried CS and it wouldn't go through. My Sprint DSL is still working perfectly though.
My Yahoo SBC DSL is as slow as dial up right now. I can't find any mention of this on google news yet.
Hmm. There was a problem like this about a month ago here in my area (someone apparently cut a line and my school's hs, phone service, and wireless (friends) were out for about 3 hours.
Sprint users all over the US are reporting major problems on HoFo. This problem is not just isolated to the west coast, it seems to be affecting Sprint users all over the US.
By the way, I'm experiencing the same problems that many Sprint PCS users are on my Virgin Mobile phone. Virgin also uses the Sprint network. I'm not able to receive any incoming calls, all of my incoming calls go straight to voicemail. I am able to make phone calls though. My text messaging doesn't work either nor can I check my balance via the phone. Worst of all I can't even contact Virgin Mobile except by email. *86 doesn't work, dialing 611 or *611 from my Virgin Mobile phone I receive a busy signal, and if you try their 1-888 number from any line it rings once and then you receive a busy signal.
Update: My Virgin Mobile phone is now fully working. I may live in Tennessee but I have a Sacramento, CA number with them. So I'm guessing the Sacramento area Sprint/Virgin Mobile users that was having problems should now be able to use their phones with no problems.
Dual Fiber Cuts Impact Wireless and Wireline Long Distance Networks in Western U.S. Restoration efforts underway Media Contact: John B. Taylor john.b.taylor@sprint.com 571.437.4685 Reston, Va. — 01/09/2006 At approximately 3:30 p.m. EST (12:30 PST) on Jan. 9, 2006, a fiber cut between Phoenix, Ariz. and Palm Springs, Calif. has impacted Sprint Nextel’s wireless, wireline and long distance service along the West Coast. At the time the cut occurred west of Phoenix, Sprint Nextel was conducting emergency maintenance to its fiber optic network near Reno Junction, Calif., which is near Reno, Nev. The traffic passing through Reno was being temporarily routed through the network near Phoenix as part of the standard emergency maintenance plan. This resulted in a "dual" fiber cut affecting traffic going to and coming from the west coast and other western parts of the United States. The Phoenix fiber cut impacts: * Mobile phone long distance service on both Nationwide Sprint PCS and Nextel National Network. * Internet traffic on the Sprint Nextel IP network (traffic may be delayed). * Sprint Nextel local residential and business telephone service also is impacted, in that local customers may be unable to make long distance calls. Local phone service should not be impacted. Sprint Nextel technicians have suspended the emergency maintenance near Reno so we can quickly restore as much traffic as possible. Other Sprint Nextel technicians are at the site of the Phoenix cut and will begin repairing the fiber cut as soon as possible. Sprint apologizes to its customers for the inconvenience to its customers. We are working to restore service as soon as possible. Update, 1/9/06, 5:55 p.m. EST: Sprint Nextel technicians have ceased the scheduled maintenance near Reno, and service is beginning to be restored. ©2005 Sprint Nextel. All rights reserved.
