Just did an ESN swap with an Alltel number to Sprint. I ran in to the issue that the Alltel tel. prefix did not match the address Sprint shows for me. It shows a nearby larger city (45 miles away). I presume this city was the "coverage area" for Alltel/Cellular One.

The Sprint rep. solved the problem by making up an address in that city as the "service address" for the telephone number. My only concern in doing that is whether it will affect my coverage area/roaming/long distance.

When I first looked at switching and checked to see if the number was portable it said it was but showed it as the larger city and I a smaller nearby city's coverage area for Sprint. The rep I spoke to then said it wouldn't be a problem to switch it as long as the system showed it could be switched.

Has any one else had the same problem?

Not sure I completely understand what you are talking about. But as long as your number is properly authenticated by Sprint and you live in an eligible zip code for Sprint service then it won't matter. Sprint no longer uses the home SID thing so if you're phone is working where you are now it should work the same anywhere else you go.
