Has anyone had a similar problem with this? Out of the blue, yesterday Sprint cancelled my account. Making 6 calls to 5 differant departments, every rep being very rude to me..come to find out that because I had a past due balance of $101.00 my not only turned my 2 lines of servce off..but just totally cancelled my account. All the reps told me that I would be charged $200.00 per line for a total of $400.00 ETF. The $101.00 paymet is actually in the mail and I've called my bank to stop payment on the check..anyhow..my question is..does Sprint have the right to cancell an account and charge the ETF on an account that THEY cancelled? Anyone have any thoughts on this?? Thats OK I've got T-Mobile as well and I prefer them over Sprint!!

Yes. Technically, Sprint has the right to cancel your account if you are one penny, one day late and they can charge you the ETF.

From the Sprint/NEXTEL Terms & Conditions

"You will be charged a fee ("Early Termination Fee") for each line of Service that you terminate early (i.e., prior to satisfying the Term Commitment) or for each line of Service that we terminate early for good reason (for example, violating the payment or other terms of the Agreement."

Basically, by opening the box and activating service, you agreed to their terms and conditions. I think the only thing you could do is reactivate your service after the balance is paid (if they'll let you) and fulfil the remainder of your contract.

I don't think you are required to sign a contract. If you activate the phone and have a plan you agree to their terms whether you signed a contract or not. I never sign any contract with them when I renew my plan for 2 years.

This doesn't sound right to me at all, when most other wireless providers do give their customers a few days grace period. Also it's definitely not the way for Sprint to boast their customer service ratings either.
Cailiff04 I hope TMobiles service works out well for you.

I doubt they would cancel someone for being just a few days late. It was probably late by 30 days or more.

This sounds more like it to me. But why wouldn't they just suspend the service first and then cancel the account after no payment has been received?

Agreed- I don't see any carrier canceling your account for being a few days late. Maybe if you are substantially late they may suspend it until you pay up, but not cancel it. This seems weird.

Or maybe he was consistantly delinquent....Remember Sprint is getting rid of accounts with a history of Non-pay disconnects.....

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised to see someone's account be suspended if they have really bad credit and have a tenancy to pay late, but I would not think Sprint would cancel them unless they have a deep history of non-payment, like you said.

Thanks mobileprincess...so far it has!! I get very reliable coverage here in town. East edge is spotty..but with roaming on cingular I'm covered. A New cell site is now up and running in Van Buren Oh so I'm covered there also!!

As for Sprint..I'm not sure whats going to happen. The reps coul've been a little nicer about the whole situation. Instead I get the reps who dont speak very good English and dont know what their doing anyway!!

Nope it was exactly 5 days late and I had a payment arrangment in place to pay it on the 28th when i got paid..but that wasn't good enough for them. I was a customer with Sprint for approx 6 months and was never late with a payment!!

WOW, only 5 days late with no other occurrences was enough for Sprint to close your account. That stinks! Nice to hear that TMobile is working out well for you so far.

I'll bet you a dollar to a donut that you could experience the same treatment from any other carrier... it just happened to be Sprint.

Not with TMobile it won't. They never cancel your account for being 5 days late on only one occasion. ASAIK Cingular and Verizon also wouldn't do this.

Well aside from this single instance, I have never heard of Sprint doing it either. I think either it was a computer glitch that caused this to happen or that we simply are not getting the entire story here.

Yea...Something is right here....No carrier cuts you off for being 5 days late....Sprint is even only carrier I know that will give temp credits if you cant pay on time.

Think about it. Would anyone actually come in and admit they were 30 days late? I doubt it. It's human nature to spin the story in your own favor to make yourself look like the good guy and them the bad guy. I've been around long enough to have seen it many times on forums. Not saying that's what happened here. Like someone else said it could have also been a computer glitch or something like that. But if it was it should have been an easy fix.

Princess, I was actually referring to the OP's claim that the Sprint people were rude, that they did not speak good English, and all that other bitter grapes crap. My point was that if he had the beef with T-Mobile then we would have heard how T-Mobile was rude, and they didn't speak good English. Or if it were Verizon, they were rude, and didn't speak good English, etc and so on.

If a company gives you what you want, as in our friends case T-Mobile, they are the hero and Sprint is the villain. He obviously would have preferred to stay with Sprint - but since he couldn't get his way, he's going to trash them. But as I stated earlier, it could have been any other carrier, it could have been any other industry or product.

I also believe it isn't as clear cut factually as the OP is making it out to be. To believe otherwise is gullibility to the highest power.

And to Larry... you are correct, sir! "Human Nature Spin". I like it!
