So i am getting the Sprint Fair & Flexible plan and am going to be in Central FL mostly traveling up to northeast FL, coastal GA, coastal SC, interior NC, SW VA and Eastern Tennessee also sometimes Ski Resorts in Utah, Colorado and Jackson Hole Wyoming (Jackson) and Reno Nevada and near Reno in CA. I will also be traveling to Redbank, NJ sometimes and next year to Portland, ME and New Bern, NC. We sometimes go the the Panhandle of FL near Pensecola and Ft. Walton Beach.

I just wanted to know which phone got/gets the best reception the Nokia 3588i or the Nokia 3585i (Nokia 3585i more in my price range though)

    Thanks a LOT

I'm sure they are the same. They probably use the same hardware and very similar software so I doubt there would be any difference in reception. The 3588i is a better looking phone so I would go for that one. I didn't even realize that the 3585 was still available.

Well the Nokia 3588i has a color screen and I just like the way it looks better. I'd have to agree with Larry. I would go with the Nokia 3588i.

the 3588 and 3589 are the same phone, for different carriers. I have the 89. It was chosen due to my need for very good RF (the area around my home has a very weak signal, but 100 feet away the signal is 5 bars). I wanted a phone, not cute, not a lot of bells and whistles, but just a phone. I could not have made a better selection, it holds a signal that others cannot even find. I say go with the 88.

What are the prices on these phones, I just want the phone (not a plan)

I was thinking of buying the Nokia 3585i from WalMart for 56.97 w/out a plan or anything (just in the box with Simple Freedom setup stuff- waiting to be activated) and i was wondering if i could buy it that way and switch it over to Sprint PCS.

How would i unlock it and switch it to SPCS?

PS. I am on the Nokia website comparing the two phones and see that it says for Serivce (in Mhz)

    Nokia 3588i = CDMA 800/1900
    AMPS

    Nokia 3585i = CDMA 800/1900
    AMPS 800

What is the diffrence between AMPS and AMPS 800 ?

    Thanks for the replies!

This is sprint's homepage for the phones
    http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/P...HONES_TEMPLATE&navTemplateText=All PCS Phones

The Nokia 3588i phone says 149.99 above it with a rebate making it free with activation.

Your saying you want just the phone and not the plan. Well with all your other posts saying that Sprint is the best for you... why not just sign a 1 year and get the phone for free??? I mean sprint is the best...your not going to leave them right away are you?????

I would go with the 3588i phone too.....

AMps and AMPS 800 are the same thing...it's just they were just adding the 800 to show you the frequency number that amps runs on.

Have you ever thought of using ebay ?
here is 2 searches for a Sprint Nokia 3585i phone and a Sprint Nokia 3588i? Might be cheaper.... you might even be able to get the 3588i phone for pretty cheap.

Don't bother...Sprint PCS will not allow you to activate any phone not sold by them. They have a list of every Sprint branded phone's serial number, and if your phone's ESN is not on the list they will not activate it. You could activate that Alltel phone with Verizon, but not with Sprint.

I doubt it since it was discontinued so long ago. You might be able to find a Radio Shack that has a refurbished one but I doubt it.

If you are unwilling to go the eBay route You could consider signing a 1 year contract with Sprint. You would only get a $75 rebate, so the 3588 would cost you $75. If you want Fair and Flexible, as you stated, I think you will have to be on a contract anyway as I don't think those plans are eligible for the $10/mo no contract option, though I could be wrong.
