Is there a way that I can seperate my phone line from my parents family plan and have it put in my name without extending the contract? Mine is not up until November.
You can do a "transfer of financial responsibility" which will allow you to assume responsibility for your line of service. However, you will have to choose an individual voice plan if you don't intend to have other family plan members on your account, which depending on how the charges were being allocated within your existing family plan, may be quite an increase in your monthly service rate. A credit check will be run and a deposit may be required. Also, I believe a one year contract is required for the new account, but that would only extend your existing contract by a couple of months, so if I'm correct about that it may not be a show stopper.
If that is all I can do I'll just have to wait. I don't want to extend the contract time at all. I hate my current phone and want to be able to upgrade it ASAP. I guess I will have to wait until November.
If you want a discounted phone from the carrier, you would have to get a new two year contract. Your upgrade eligiblity date may be sooner than the end of your contract.
