I have recently received a spam message to my handset. Can anyone tell me who regulates this sort of thing? Who do I complain to and what can I hope to achieve by complaining? Who is in charge of stopping this sort of thing?
It is often difficult to stop. I once had a problem with SMS spam, and since I didn't use SMS at the time I just called my carrier and blocked delivery of all SMS messages. Luckily, I have not had this problem since I did start using SMS earlier this year. Some carriers have management tools available to parents allowing you to control who calls/texts the phone. This may be a solution if the SMS is coming from the same number all the time. Here in the US, I have added my cell phone to the national Do Not Call list. I'm not sure if the UK has a similar list, but at least its a start.
Thanks - who regulates this in the USA. Is it self regulated by the mobile operators or is there a gov body which consumers can go to if they get nojoy from the operators? Thanks for your help on this?
SMS spam is not regulated that I know of. I have my numbers on the Do Not Call list, and I personally consider SMS to be communication by telephone, but I'm not sure where all of this stands legally.
